How do I open hatch using key fob on 2019? The key fob has a picture of the open hatch but nothing I do opens it.

Have you tried both fobs? Normally, you just hold down the hatch button on the fob until it opens.

Does it open automatically when you use the latch button on the hatch itself?

Can‘t remember what all the setting options are, but have you checked the system settings for the rear tailgate on your infotainment screen? Maybe try resetting them to factory default.

What trim level is your car?

You may have to unlock the car before the hatch will open with the remote (but you can use the unlock button on the remote for this too). There's a setting for this behavior in the menus somewhere. I have mine set this way on purpose so I don't accidentally open the hatch.

And remember that you have to hold down the hatch button on the remote. You can't just press it quickly like the lock/unlock buttons.

My 15 EXL fob has the pictogram of an open hatch, but does not have the auto open hatch (not even sure it was an option in 15).
Wife's 19 EXL fob has the same pictogram, (the "remote start" and "open hatch" pictograms are smaller buttons paired at the bottom of the remote), with the words "HOLD" written between the two buttons.

The hatch button on lower (non-powered) tailgate does the following:
Only the hatch is unlocked when the button is pressed, and the hatch can be manually opened. The hatch will relock itself when closed, if the vehicle isn't unlocked.

I haven't tested this, but I assume the tailgate will lock itself after 30 seconds if the button is pressed and the tailgate isn't opened.

If the feature is enabled on your CRV, you must hold the fob button down for multiple seconds for the tail gate to unlock. This is also true for the driver tailgate open button on some trim levels of CRV as well.

This is a safety feature to prevent accidental unlocking of the tail gate by an unintended button press. Why the lift gate but not other windows? The lift gate, if it were not fully closed and locked would be a pathway for exhaust fumes into the cabin, you know... in case the beeping and light indicators on the instrument panel failed to get the driver to close and lock an open tail gate lock. :)

I believe this is true for tailgates with and without the self-opening lift gate feature. Honestly, unless you have the power lift gate, I don't see the reason for the button on the fob given you have a manual button on the tail gate itself.

It can get very dirty in rainy/snowy weather. The FOB is likely kept clean when it rubs inside the pocket or purse! ;)

This issue may be obvious to others, but i ran into a problem opening tailgate during curbside pickup (never used this service before Covid). If engine is running, tailgate will not open unless you shift to Park (so you don't accidentally open it on the freeway at 70 MPH). Took a minute or so, but finally figured it out. 😆
