Parking Sensors

We recently purchased a 2022 Honda CR-V EX-L Hybrid and had parking sensors installed as one of the options.

All the information online from Honda and other sources indicates that only the Hybrid Touring trim level gets front and rear parking sensors equipped as standard, but that the parking sensors are available as an option on other trim levels.

The 2021 and 2022 Owner’s manuals show eight sensors, four corners, two each front and rear bumpers (page 561). No other descriptions of the system are available from the Honda on-line sites. Not wanting some of the other features in the Touring trim level, we assumed the parking sensors option we paid for would include the front and rear sensors as advertised. Unfortunately, we’ve found that only the Hybrid Touring trim has the two front sensors.

I see comments in this thread saying that parking slots “in the US” are large and don’t but up to blind walls. I’m happy for your situation but I live in the US in an inner-city environment and most of my parking, including at home, is into solid walls. The CRV does not have a clear sightline to the front bumper like the Honda Element we traded in; I don’t care about the rear sensors at all, the car comes with a rear facing camera, the only reason I paid over $1,300 extra for this feature was for the front sensors. I am disgusted by this bait and switch from a company I used to trust.

Sensors were added by the dealer, they said that they are following guidance from Honda US and the kits from Honda do not include front sensors, was told to contact Honda US directly. Contacting Honda I was told to contact the dealer. I've been going back and forth for almost five months so far.

You know. Mounting expensive delicate electronics directly to something that (theoretically at least) is designed to "absorb impact" seems like questionable engineering.
Maybe if they'd use something larger than a cigarette pack to size parking spaces we wouldn't need these things.
I have no need for the sensors, but I can certainly see where they would be useful in a more urban environment than I inhabit.

so you are saying, you got only the rear sensors for 1300$ ?
Or you got 4 at the rear and only 2 in the front, then its how it comes.

Had I been shopping for Honda parts I may have seen the description posted above, I was shopping for a vehicle and only had the information on the Honda site, the user’s manual and configuration tool, and the salesman at the dealer who didn’t know there was a difference between the (only) sensors described in either the 2021 or 2022 user’s manual and standard on the Hybrid Touring trim.

Just to be more specific than my “over $1,300” in the OP; the price for the parts posted by D2 above is $393.96, the price listed as approximant for this accessory in the build tool on the Honda site is $548, the price the dealer added was $1,369.10.

Sounds like you need to discuss this further w/ your dlr. First for not clearly explaining what you were getting installed and second for overcharging you on the price. Either way the dlr needs to make this right somehow to a reasonable expectation.

I hear you.
And I was in your same boat. The only thing I wanted from the touring trim was the parking sensors. I didn't get it from the dealer because of the labor cost (around 1000$) and they told me, it will have a separate alert unit on the dash and not like the integrated look in the touring trim.

But questions back to your. Are you happy with the functionality of the two sensors on the front? If yes, then don't worry about it. It's the same amount my dealer quoted two an year back.

The two sensors on the front (the front corner sensors) are useless for me, they don't detect a solid object in front of the car before you hit it. And yes, the dealer should have known that what Honda was advertising was not what would be delivered, but on the other hand Honda should have been truthful in their advertising.

Had I known that the accessory as advertised on Honda’s web site was not actually available, I would have been down to a choice between the Turing model or a Toyota Rav-4 and wouldn’t have purchased the CR-V EX-L.

This is the description on the build site under Electronic Accessories:

"Parking Sensors can provide invaluable assistance in difficult parking situations and can alert you to obstacles behind you or out of your line of sight.
  • Color-matched to your vehicle
  • Four sensors trigger audible beeps that quicken as you approach detected objects
A separate Back-Up Sensor Attachment is required for installation.

Some components and colors may vary. Please see your Honda dealer for details.
Prices shown are manufacturer suggested retail prices only. Installation cost for accessories is not included. Dealer costs may vary. Prices exclude applicable taxes.
Available On:
LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, Touring, Hybrid EX and Hybrid EX-L"

It also shows a picture of the front of a CR-V with 1 corner sensor installed. From just the description, it appears as if it is just referring to the rear sensors. That's a bad on Honda's web sales team. It should have been more specific, like the link D2s provided. I assume the salesman had an actual correct copy of that description, did he share it with you?

At this point, about all you can do is make them aware of the situation in a civilized manner. Explain what you discussed with your salesperson and question where the disconnect was. A reputable dealer will try and work out some sort of monetary resolution, like splitting the cost with you. At this point, it is what it is and your options are limited beyond that. If the vehicle upsets you that much, see if they can work out a deal on a trade for a Touring. With the prices used vehicles are pulling in right now, it may even be possible to get a good amount back from a trade with a Toyota dealer, if you decide the Rav works better for you.

I wish you luck with this!
