I saw someone talking about this yesterday- of course I did not get the whole story.....but its something like this-

A guy was talking about a music shop that sells cd's and so on... he was saying that someone there loaded a lot of music on a usb stick and he played it through his car radio.

My question- is this possible? Does anyone here do that?

I recently got my phone playing pandora on my car radio- and it is great! BUT- the issue comes when I get a phone call. I just can not get that part right. I'm afraid I might wreck trying to deal with that.
If the usb thing will work- that would make it easier for me.

Anyone hear of this???

Definitely possible on my 2020, not sure about 2013. Should be in your manual.

Well, a CD will have to be ripped to MP3 files. Simple on a computer. Try it out. Put an MP3 file on a USB stick and put it in your car and see if it will play. If so, start ripping! If not, you saved yourself time and grief.

That's the only way I play recorded music.

Thanks for all the answers folks....I'm gonna look a little deeper into this. MP3?.....not familiar with those. I'll find someone locally that can help me. But this really sounds good to me. I never liked to use the radio- because I could rarely find music I liked. When I discovered Pandora and bluetooth I fell in love with it.... just had the issue with the phone.
I finally decided to just get some cd's for my car.....then i heard about the music on a usb 😃
If I can get this to work....I'll be in heaven.

Thanks all...

Edit:..... Okay my owners manual says I can play cd's, WMA/MP3/AAC, USB Flash Drive/ Ipod. Iphone/ bluetooth. Tickled pink-now gotta find some young person to set this up for me

I have a HP desktop....it has a dvd drive.
I don't have any music recorded anywhere, nor do I have any cd's. Haven't had anything like that in many years. I'm just getting started- this is brand new to me. I'll find some local that can help me.

Be aware that a FAT32 partition can't be any larger than 4GB, and most flash drives sold today are larger than that.
You may need to create a FAT32 partition on the drive that is smaller than 4GB, if the drive itself is larger than that.

I do it all the time on my '05 CRV with the original radio. You have to have a usb slot on your system or get a bluetooth adapter like CRUX that also has a slot for usb

Have hundreds of tunes loaded on thumb drives plugged into my CRV (2019). Just select the thumb drive from source and off you go.

i'm a little confused.... are you expecting the music to keep playing while you take a call through the CRV head unit?

also, if you need more info, search of fat32 or USB, etc. a few huge threads are out there in the site about burning to usbs, format, software, etc.

A USB flash drive works fine for music on my 2021 CRV

Playing Pandora from your cell phone is great, IF you have an unlimited data plan for your phone. I don't, so using Pandora in the car would quickly eat up my data. I've burned MANY CD's to a thumb drive and it works great in the car. the only thing that bothers me is if I'm looking for a particular artist/album/song, that's an issue because I can't label the thumb drives like a CD case.

Do you have any actual numbers for how much data Pandora chews up?
I have not found music of any sort to significantly effect my data usage.
I don't have an "unlimited" plan but I have pretty high data limits, and I never even come close.
One fellow I know has several colors of flash drive, the color designating the genre.

My 2012 CR-V seemed to be doing this the last few days. But, I was changing some settings with the play mode. I have a separate thread about what I found out re: the playlist order. Anyway, I changed the setting to Normal Play. Not sure what setting it was on before, maybe Repeat One Folder? I checked after parked for a while and the system resumed playing at the point where it was when I turned it off, which is what I want. The owner's manual doesn't define Normal Play, while other modes seem self explanatory. I'll verify the mode and results again tomorrow.

The music did in fact resume where I left off yesterday. The setting is Normal Play.

Re: my other thread, I mentioned I tried making a playlist within a folder by renaming each file with 01 (songname) 02 (songname).. etc., but found out the playlist seemed to be determined by the order in which the files were sent to the USB drive.

With a real computer operating system you can modify the "atime" (access time) of any file to be whatever you like, so you could make the files show up in any order you want under those conditions.
As for doing that on Windows, I have no idea if it's even possible.

A free Windows utility called DriveSort is available that solves the file sort problem. Easy to find in a search, it's easy to use and allows you to sort files and folders alphanumerically, then save that sort on the USB stick. While operating systems for Mac and Windows sort files before displaying them to the user, embedded operating systems in MP3 players (and the Honda media player) do not. DriveSort sorts the directory tables of a volume formatted in FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32 according to a customizable order.

Another good utility to improve your listening experience in the Honda is dBpoweramp Music Converter. This one is not free, but there is a free trial version. You can use dBpoweramp to rip CDs to digital audio files in a wide variety of file formats playable on your Honda media player. I really like the WMA Lossless format (NOT standard WMA), the files are slightly larger than an MP3 but the audio resolution is close to CD quality, much much better than MP3. This file format is supported on the Honda player and sound terrific.

Thanks for the information, I'll check both out. I don't mind paying for something if I get good results. One genre I listen to is fine, almost preferable to be random, another I prefer as configured in a playlist.
