Roof rack, carrying hybrid CR-V spare

I refuse to travel around without a spare (little confidence in the sealant and compressor and occasionally far from convenient towing, tire replacement). We bought the EX level, with no roof rack or rails. I bought an aluminum roof basket from eTrailer ($195) and mounted it on two SportRack rails from our previous car. It's a good combination, solid. I know a roof rack decreases mpg, but the deal with my wife was she agreed to the spare as long as it's not in the car, taking up space. We're getting 40 mpg around town and somewhere near 35 mpg on the highway (haven't checked it for pure highway mileage, yet), so not hurting us too much.
