Seat Comfort

I'm coming from 2 previous Odyssey EX-L vehicles to the Hybrid EX-L. My wife and I both find the seats to be very uncomfortable after about 2 hours of driving. Anybody else? Any solutions? I suppose car seat bottoms are probably the only remedy...

Thanks

We transitioned from an Audi Q5 and were pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the seats in our Touring. We’ve done a few 7 hour road trips and have no complaints. I always move the seat position around a bit in any car after a couple of hours driving because no matter the seat, your body isn’t going to like being in the same position for an extended period. Assume you tried various positions and different lumbar adjustments?

Seats never satisfy everyone. And for good reason.. we all have different requirements for seating comfort.

That said.. an EX-L and Touring has some really versatile power seating adjustments which I found once I got them set right... really make for comfy rides on long trips. The only weak point in Hondas 5 way power seats is the Lumbar support inflator is a bit on the weak side as I find I have to set it almost to maximum for my old achy lumbar. :)

If you find it is seat bottom fatigue related, then any of the many memory foam seat cushions of better quality will serve to fix that issue right up. Don't go cheap though... go with one that is reputable for the purpose. This is what we use for seating cushions in the home, backyard, sporting events, etc. when we need more under-cushion support. Tip: for this seat cushion.... the little infinity symbol goes to the front, and the open split goes in the back.

I’m pretty picky when it comes to seat comfort as my back is sensitive as I get older. My CRV Touring is pretty decent I must say. I made my first full day road trip last weekend, didn’t experience any back discomfort. My mom has a 2014 CRV LX and it’s NOT a road trip friendly vehicle, yet drives well (pretty peppy) and gets good highway mileage but not as comfortable as mine.

Just finished a 2000 mile road trip with my Hybrid EX. I had this seat cushion for the drivers seat, made a world of difference. It does get feel a little stiff after a few hours without it. Of course the seat warmers are a bit useless with it. But it’s only necessary when taking long trips.

One other variation to consider... because so many of us have specific back challenges.. is you may actually require more firm support rather than cushion. This would be particularly true for chronic lower back and lumbar that requires firm and fixed seating to avoid stretch and stress of bones and muscle. IF that is your particular case and need.. then I personally have found these to be outstanding. I use this on my family room couch when I recline as I need more support for my lower back than the couch provides.

Note: The manufacturer produces several different variants of this seat support to address a full range of needs. I personally use their Posture Plus version.

I had a 18 CRV EX now have the 21 hybrid EX and my wife and I just completed a trip of 14 hours round trip driving. We both noticed that we did not get numb butt or feel the constant need to squirm in the new car. Made that same trip many times in the 18 and always had to keep moving my butt around and adjusting to not be uncomfortable. These seats look the same but they are clearly better and Honda made changes that increase long term sitting comfort.

Well, in the Civic, as in the current Accords, it is "almost" a reclined seat by design. You step in and down into the seat. Once seated, your body weight is more evenly distributed along your torso. A real pain (literally) for older folks with some back issues though.

Whereas in the CRV.. it is much closer to ship's captains style seating... drawn straight from the minivan playbook. Perfect for older folks as you climb up and in to seat and slide left and down and out to get out. But it can be more tedious on long drives for old backs, particularly lower back.

My mother-in-law, who has had a hip replacement... finds it easy to get into and out of my CRV (front seats or rear) but needs a hand hold assist to get in and out of my wife's Accord. So I purchased one of these for her and it works great for lower profile seating in sedans like the Civic, Accord, etc.

I'm 72 with both a very bad lumber spine and cervical spine issues for which I take chronic pain medication on a daily basis. Even with these conditions I find the seats in our 2020 EX-L to provide excellent support and pain free driving for even long drives. We traded a Toyota 2015 RAV4 Limited for the CRV and those seats were a torture chamber for me. In out test drives before deciding on the CRV we drove a 2021 RAV4 XLE Premium and those seats were even worse than the ones in our old RAV4. The CRV seats are even better than the German style seats in my 2018 Atlas and they too are really good for my spine issues. My wife originally wanted the RAV4, but agreed with me that the front seats were really awful, and, the seating position in the back of the RAV4 which put your knees in a raised position made the backseat unusable for me at anytime.

My salesman gave me a funny look when I told him I wanted to ride in the back seat before I drove the C-RV, but he obliged and drove me around.
I like to know what I'm inflicting on my passengers.
But the CR-V is comfortable, front and rear. I believe that's what the "C" is for.
Not only are the seats comfortable, they are easy to get in and out of. That 90 degree door opening helps too.
I too found the RAV-4 to be nowhere near as comfortable as the C-RV.

I use the Purple Ultimate Seat Cushion. Ultimate Seat Cushion For Extra Support [Extended Sitting] | Purple®
I have a 90-minute one way commute for work and spend way too much time in my '15 CRV Touring than I really want too.
I also use the Purple Back Cushion for my lower back. Seat Cushion For Lower Back Support [Lumbar] | Purple®
I agree with the poster above; the Odyssey seats are MUCH BETTER than the CRV seats. I wish you could swap out the drivers seat.
The Pilot Captains seat is much better too!

Yes, I bought one of those for my father when I had the 2014 Civic. It was very helpful.
