Some kind of fluid leak...

Hello everyone,

Today while waiting outside a supermarket another motorist informed me fluid was leaking from the engine bay. I had the engine running and the aircon on. I got out and could see liquid dripping onto the floor from roughly the centre of the car towards the back of the engine bay. The man touched the fluid and said it wasnt brake fluid and didn't smell of anything.
I had a look at the water reservoir to the right of the engine next to the battery and it contained blue fluid around half way up the bottle. I think this is the coolant reservoir but could be wrong. The temperature gauge has remained steady at around half way.
So my question is, does anybody have any ideas what this might be and what it will cost to repair? I speculated it could be fluid from the aircon system but I've no idea. I took some video of the underside but couldn't see any water. I did notice that behind the under engine protection cover there appears to be a heavily rusted tube - possibly exhaust. No idea if this is related to the leak. (Poor quality still shot attached.)
I'm disappointed as the car has only covered 34,000 miles. 😤
Any advice or suggestions much appreciated.

When you are new, it shows, glad it was not gasoline, you never know? Check your pass foot well, from time to time, Also honda could have made the drain hose not hit metal parts, they should have allowed a better drain spot if asked,

I've never experienced this before in any car I've owned. I mentioned it to colleagues at work today and many had experienced similar incidents with Honda and Toyota cars. One person said he once called the AA and they explained it was the air conditioning. 😄

Indeed.

We have had our share of concerned new owners worried about all the water being spit out of the tail pipes.

Then you explain to them that in these modern clean burning engines.. for one gallon of fuel, the engine will actually produce and expel slightly more than one gallon of water in the form of vapor/condensed (depending on ambient temperature) and a bit of soot right out the tail pipes. :)

And to put a cherry on top... we let them know that there is in fact a small drain hole on each tail resonator/muffler to allow any condensation to drain off and is harmless.

In some way.. Hondas appear to be a bit on the incontinent side of motor vehicle technology ... with all the puddles they create. :ROFLMAO:

As others have said, it is most likely water dripping from the AC. On a hot day, with a cold ac blowing, mine produces a mini creek wherever I go. If you want, place a paper towel on the fluid and pick it up. If it's mainly clear, you are good to go. I usually touch it with my fingers as this is the most easy way to tell by the texture and consistency of the fluid.

If it is indeed the AC, don't feel bad, you would be surprised how many people don't know this occurrence and some even get duped into expensive inspections over it. I have saved probably two or three people from towing their vehicle out of fear of the AC river of doooom ,😁

Thank you. I really did worry it was something bad. I guess we don't usually get enough hot weather to notice this. I was going to have it towed to the dealer! So glad this forum exists! 😊

What did the fluid taste like? Probably condensation from the AC.

As a DAILY user of AC in Houston, TX, I’m surprised we don’t have perpetually wet roadways with all the ac condensation that puddles around almost every car. I have noticed my 2005 seems to puddle more than my wife’s 2014 Rav4, but we don’t like to mention those things here. 🤣
