Red steady SRS light came on after getting a Master Cylinder clutch put in - didn't show up till the next day when I moved the Drivers seat forward... Husband is trying to figure this out - to reset it... but the instructions he has only talks about 2 flashes, we are getting 3 flashes.

He got code "2-1" = "open or increased resistance in front Passenger's air bag inflator "? It was the Drivers seat I moved forward but that code seems to mean the passenger side..

Anyone deal with something like this. I plan to buy a scanner with the Honda SRS codes real soon.. but was trying to figure this out sooner if we can.

Thank you.

First step is to check connections. (Careful with airbag!)

Does your car have all the Takata airbag recalls done?

I would ask a Honda dealer if the SRS system is covered....

Sounds like I'm just going to have to take it somewhere to see why this darn light came on and wont come off.. my husband seems to think due to the blinking it's related to the passenger side airbag. I am in the process of sending back a OBD2 scanner that will not work with my older CRV's (have 1997- 2006 cars)... and plan on buying a Foxwell NT510 ELITE specific for Hondas soon... to see if this can RESET this light and see if it will stay off ...

Shouldn't we try this 1st... if it comes back on.. we know we have a problem.

Don't know if this will help??

Most of the time it is the connector having too much resistance
Solution is to clean the connector pins.

Solution is to clean the connector pins.
Again, disconnect battery for 30 minutes before messing with ANY airbag. o_O

Our old 'test' for poor connections was to unplug and re-attach any suspect connector three times. If it works then, you found the culprit. (The sockets MIGHT need to be tightened, though, which is why I brought up issues created by prior airbag replacements)

A contact cleaner might be a worthwhile investment

You can buy it at home stores such as Home Depot

got the Foxwell Honda Scanner... getting Code 2-1 -- Says "DTC-Open or increased resistance in front passengers airbag inflator".. I looked this up and it says this could be very costly.. from $600 to thousands of dollars ! Getting nervous now... we couldn't figure out how to reset this with the scanner.. we tried but it didn't seem to work.

At the top of the Gen 2 forum is a sticky thread with the service manual in it (note that it is not the
proper manual for the usa market vehicles, but should have mostly similar information that may be helpful if you don’t have a copy of the proper manual).

Go to the section on “Restriants”. Then go to the portion that says DTC trouble shooting index. Then look for DTC 2-1 in the chart To give you the page number for the instructions.

Certain SRS codes won’t let scanners reset them (Im not certain which codes do this ... supposedly this was done so people can’t clear SRS codes without fixing the problem) requiring you to do a manual reset. A manual reset is done by jumping the MES connector (memory erase signal) In a particular pattern. that manual reset procedure is on page 23-29 of the service manual. if the code is still on after a manual reset, then the SRS fault you have is still present.

if the code won’t clear with both scan tool and manual resets then the fault is constant, not an “intermittent”, spurious failure. It’ll need to be diagnosed and fixed.

you could let your husband read the service manual link at the top of the 2nd Gen sticky list for the SRS 2-1 code. After reading it, you/he can decide whether or not the steps to diagnose and fix are within your capability.

We bought this 04 Crv March 15 (from a Honda Shop), Carfax was clean, no accidents, my husband did notice that the grill was cracked - he wire tied it up even... so maybe there was a small accident that was not reported on this car... that may mean I need a new module .. but why would it take literally 3 1/2 months for this SRS light to come back on (assuming the Honda shop may have reset it?)

Well... on the carfax, that Takata bag was replaced on the passenger side.. so here we are 2 yrs later.. 6-28-19 .. with this problem.. I am not willing to go spending like another $2,000 for a replacement on this.. only paid $5,000 for the car... we just use it for a WORK car... we won't have anyone sit in the passenger side then.

Ok... I had that all wrong... I called Honda , their 1800 # where you tell them the VIN = Honda Customer Relations | Honda Owners Site ...and (this wasn't on my personal Carfax, though I did have it written down, it's recorded)... the Passenger Takata bag was replaced 4 months ago on 3-13-21... we bought the car 2 days later... the Honda REP told me there is a Warranty on this recall work till 2030 (surprised it was this long)..

So I call Local Honda shop (not the same one we bought this Crv, that's an hour drive away)... they can not guarantee me , even after explaining WHEN this recalled Airbag was put in (3 + months ago) and the CODE 2-1 - that clearly says it's the PASSENGER

Inflator, so hoping this will be covered outside the $99 diagnostic fee !

Appointment is Thursday... I will let you all know what they find and IF Honda gives me some sort of hassle about this supposedly being UNDER WARRANTY..Hopefully it's just a loose wire somewhere that came undone. I am hoping if it's something more serious & costly, that this Takata work Warranty will be covering it all... I can't imagine why it wouldn't -if it has anything to do with the Inflator itself.
