Hi all, I hope someone can help. My SRS came on a little while ago. I did the reset trick and it went out again for a while, then came back on again. I reset it once more and again, it stayed off for a while but is now on again and will not go after a reset, it just comes straight back on.
I tried shorting pins 9 & 4 on the OBD2 port to try and get the SRS codes but the light just stays on the whole time, even with the two pins shorted. I am sure I have the correct pins shorted as I bought an OBD2 plug that already has the wires in it and checked which wires to short with a multimeter.
Anyone have an idea why the light stays on permanently now? I tried resetting it a bunch of times and only got it to go out once, but it came on again 10 minutes later.

I'm not actually using any scanner or code reader, I read in the actual Honda CRV shop service manual that I can make the SRS light itself flash the codes just by shorting together a couple of specific connections on the OBD2 port, but the SRS light refuses to do this, it's just jammed on all the time.
I would even buy a reasonably priced scan tool if I can find one that does SRS codes but I wonder now if it would even work.

Disconnecting the battery for 24 hours is a good idea though, will give it a go, tnx :)

Interesting. I'm looking at his picture and it actually shows 9 and 4. If it was 8 and 4 then his wires would be connected onto the same row of the socket, but his picture shows connections on opposite sides of the socket.
I think he just made a mistake when he said 9 and 5.
I will try and confirm the connections to make though, just to be sure. Thanks :)

I think I have solved the problem, the light at least finally went out and after a bit of a road-test it stayed out. I dug out a can of contact cleaner with lubricant and went around unplugging all the connectors under the front seats and the passenger airbag and gave them all a good spray and then connected/disconnected all the plugs a few times. Reset the airbag warning light and then road-tested. Fingers crossed that is the end of it, saves me having to buy a scantool for now hopefully :)

Thankyou to everyone who gave their suggestions, much appreciated :)

I have a 2002 CRV LX with the same problem, after spray cleaning the yellow connectors under the 2 front seats and resetting the light, it would last a few days and come back on. Now it turns back on as soon as I reset it. this past weekend I lowered the glove box door all the way to the floor and found the passenger air bag connector in the upper left corner, disconnected it, sprayed with contact cleaner, reconnected and reset light and voila, it hasn't come back on in 3 days so far with around 10 engine starts. I began thinking about it and the last person to touch that connector was the dealer when they replaced the air bag on a recall. Is it a coincidence? Not sure.
Hope this helps.

It probably is a coincidence, this is kind of a common problem for many different brands of car, I did the same once upon a time to my old Ford Mondeo and my friend says he has done it to a lot of cars. I think the airbag circuit is a bit sensitive to slight connection problems, maybe erring on the side of caution to ensure that the airbags will actually work if ever needed. Glad to hear your light went out in the end :)
Mine has remained off ever since I sorted it out, so fingers crossed that everything keeps working for us.
