Sun/moon roof won't close

I'm surprised I couldn't find any notes on this subject. I assume it's rare. Today my wife reported that she was able to open her sun/moon roof, but then it wouldn't close. She was lucky to get to the dealer on the same day and they somehow got it to closed, but the details are lacking and she was told not to open it again. Repair quote for a new motor is quite high at $900-ish. Lots of labor to remove the headliner I guess. So I have some questions.
  1. Does anyone know of a legit method to manually close the sun/moon roof? There is no obvious access hole for a tool to manually crank it closed.
  2. Has anyone done this job? Wondering if there's a guide anywhere.
  3. Is there a dedicated fuse for the sun/moon roof? I need to look around. I'd like to remove it until we figure this out.

Info should be in Owner's Manual.
A Quick google search seems to indicate:
Passenger Fuse Box:
#12 - Moonroof (20A)

Based on some of the parts diagram from honda and a sunroof assembly (on ebay), the motor is could be likely behind the Sunroof control assembly. Else in the unlikely event that Honda places the motor to the rear of the vehicle, the headliner needs removal. A honda accord moonroof youtube seems to indicate it's at the rear :(

Based on the parts diagram, it would seem reasonable to say the screws hold the motor #22 to the sunroof cabling #14.

Here are images of the top and bottom of the motor assembly.

As a retired auto instructor I am tempted to say replacing roof cables is not for the inexperienced, but only because the headliner is more fragile than it appears. If you are careful it can be done; don't tell PITA but you can eat an elephant one bite at a time. I would find the factory service manual to prepare for the task. Otherwise; talk to a reputable auto glass shop - you might be pleasantly surprised with the experience over your dealer.

All Honda moon roofs used to come with a crank to close the roof if the motor failed. My 2000 Accord Coupe had the crank. None of my new Honda cars have that feature with the moon roofs. It was removed obviously to save Honda money.

On gen 2 models there is an access port in the headliner, covered by a little plastic circle thing that you can pry off with a screwdriver. There is an small wrench tool in the jack tool bag that fits up into the access port and enables manual operation of the sunroof. You can open and close it by turning the bolt with the tool. This is a factory designed failsafe that is intended to provide operation of the sunroof manually.

I don't know how to manually close it but I had the same problem on our 2015 Ford Edge. I searched YouTube and found several videos that explained because of infrequent opening and closings the channels or rails get dry and dirty. There are videos on how to clean and restore operation. It can be done by a DIYer, but watch the videos and decide if you want to tackle the project.
