Every 20k is excessive, but maybe not for this turbo engine, maybe 40-50k.

You may be able to request to see it before it is performed.
I sent you a reply but it was undeliverable. Any reason why?
Agreed with you and appreciate your reply. Thank you. In 21k more miles..about 6 years😁 I’ll do it. Thank you!

Thats very low mileage, only averaging 3500 miles per year. I agree TB cleaner is not needed for many drivers, esp those who do plenty of highway driving but for short drives and that sort of usage it may be a good idea every few years esp with direct injection. Prices are high for such basic work but dealers do charge much more than a private shop.
My 2021 CRV Ex l hybrid hasn’t reached 13,000 miles yet (83 and wife doesn’t drive anymore) I do change oil every six months not dealer but local shop I know. I agree with you, I get we miss you emails from the dealer all the time.

No way to tell if leak was there or not.

Throttle body does not need to be cleaned every 20k, maybe two to four times that. (or more)

Don't know what this BG plan is, but if it's offered it is or was probably some money grab.
I agree with you. Trust me, I'm very aware of any money grab this dealership is known for, at times. This BG warranty isn't very explanatory but I have it for free and glad the service is done. I'll keep an eye on everything, might go to another dealer for next oil change for an outside opinion.
Thank you!

Do you have an independent Honda mechanic nearby or a mechanic you can trust? Or do you go to a dealer because of your extended warranty?
I started using top tier gasoline a couple of years ago after I read about it in the forum. My gas mileage has increased, but that is likely due to the added 10K miles of expressway and rural driving in the same timeframe. Cannot tell any performance difference.
What gunks up the throttle body? What passes through it besides air?

I Always go to a dealer. Have a service contract. They are all crooked here…at times.
I rarely do long trips anymore. Have no idea what makes a throttle body need service but they told me they could see carbon deposits inside. If they lied, so be it. I do like continuity with same workers although everyone was replaced a few years ago by Sonic.

Using higher octane isn’t going to hurt your fuel injectors. Using higher octane in the turbo charged engine (especially this particular Honda engine) is to deter pre detonation. This engine is prone to head gasket failure due to poor design and high turbo pressure and pre detonation is a contributing factor. Fortunately the turbo pressure is lower in the CRV so head gasket failure isnt as bad as in the Accord. I expect to see a class action lawsuit 1 of these days due to the high failure rate.

Great question, from an emissions standpoint, the intake manifold and other hoses connect to the valve cover and PCV system, so mostly the backside of the butterfly in the throttle, intake and valves get the brunt of it over time. Mostly oil residue, combined with turbulent airflow results in a gunky substance.

Check out all this literature for "trying" to clean it without removal of components...
