Hello. Could anyone advise please? I have a U.K. registered 2017 diesel CR-V. The carpets are damp in the front and the car has developed an unpleasant smell. I checked the scuttle drains are clear. Today I noticed water on the carpet in the front passenger footwell running down from the junction of the floor and transmission tunnel. Does anyone have any ideas? I can send photos. Many thanks

Your crv is right hand drive , not sure if our left hand drives are a mirror image or not. I’ve had my passenger side opened up, the glovebox lid drops down and you remove the cabin air filter. You can then remove the panels up behind the open bonnet and look down into the cabin air filter area and see if you can find a leak.
The advice above is good, if coolant leak, it should smell like coolant. If water from a sunroof problem, it would smell musty.

I had a Dodge do this a good while back. Everyone told me the drains from the AC were plugged, but that wasn't it.

The problem was that the "tray" under the AC unit behind the dash had a crack in it, so the water would leak down into the carpet.

I used some silicon goop and foil duct tape to seal the crack (no reasonable way to get back there and change out the tray) pulled and cleaned the carpets, and it never had the problem again.

It can be caused by:

1 ) AC drain being partially or completely clogged. Or, as has already been mentioned, the AC condensation accumulation section.

2 ) Heater core leak. If it's the heater core leaking it will be antifreeze, not water. And it will mostly be on the passengers side. You might temporally remove the cabin air filter and look in that area. Also, feal around in there to see if it's damp. If it is damp, it could be AC condensation or antifreeze.

3 ) One or more sun roof drains are clogged. There are 4 of them, 2 on front corners, 2 on back corners. You can clean them by pushing a wire or tube of proper diameter throug them. The back ones can be also cleaned like that by finding where they terminate. Most vehicles hide it behind a back wheel area trim piece.

4 ) Windshield leak. It might require a windshield installer to reseal it.

5 ) Very rarely, rain can get channeled in around a door.

If you don't have a very hot dry environment to dry out the carpet and padding below it, you may have to pull the carpet and padding, dry it well, and put it back in. This is a lot of work, and takes quite a few hours.
