What is the little button next to the tailgate lift button at the back for?

I know I am just being lazy and should read the manual again but what is that little round button next to the exterior tailgate button. If I hold it in for a few seconds I get 3 beeps. I doubt it's a redundant button for setting the height, so what is it's function?

Thanks

So there is no button on the bottom of the gate other than the close button. Is this some button hidden near the license plate where you press to open the gate? Or is it one of the buttons on the left trim (which disables the kick sensor or the parking sensors). A picture would be great

Yep that button. I am surprised so many people did not notice it before. Thanks Imaxim for the info. I take it that holding it down until you get three beeps means it's locked?

Maybe its telling you to stop holding the button ;)

I looked in the owners manual and can't find anything about this button. It obviously locks the door but I wonder why its not mentioned anywhere (unless I just missed it in the 500+ pages)

You guys crack me up

I finally found it on page 137 of the full manual. They certainly did not waste much space in documenting it. And I know you guys are laughing but a free Yummy bar to the person that figures out what it is doing when you long press the button and get 3 beeps.:beb:

Thanks I read it. I wonder if the long press unlocks all the doors. That might clarify why in that post they could not get consensus on why one vehicle was doing one thing and the other was not.

I have mine set to unlock all doors when I touch one of the front door handles. When I push the long button on the tailgate, all doors also unlock (as well as the tailgate unlocking and power opening) . The small button on tailgate only locks the car. And I can't get it to beep 3 times with a long press. Just one beep when it locks.

I had the FOB in my pocket so it should not create that problem. I will try some more experiments next weekend.

you all are too darn funny today. perhaps taking life too seriously, too.

Unlocking/Locking the Tailgate
To unlock: Press the tailgate release button under the tailgate handle to unlock the tailgate. The vehicle can be on or off. Release button
To lock: Press the tailgate lock button to lock the tailgate and all doors. If the remote transmitter is inside the vehicle, the tailgate and doors will not lock.

Locking the doors and tailgate: Touch the door lock sensor on the front door or press the lock button on the tailgate. Some exterior lights flash; the beeper
sounds; all the doors and tailgate lock; and the security system sets.

Anything that locks/unlocks doors on your vehicle should be fully understood or it might just cost you your vehicle or its contents. Which is not funny when it happens!

The only time I get three beeps is when I get too far away from the car too quickly (i.e., before the "I'm ready to lock now" beep goes off), which means I have to use the remote to lock the car instead of having it lock automatically. I've learned to hesitate for a beat after closing the driver's door before I step away from the car, and that has always worked.

I'm not sure I've ever used the handle to open the rear hatch. I either use the button inside the car if I'm getting out, or the remote as I approach it if I'm getting in. Or if my hands are full, I'll use the kick method. But in general I hate just standing there waiting for it to open, so I do whatever will get it started before I get to the back.
