Hi

I notice little things but this could be normal, I dont know so I will ask. Car fully serviced from day one from Honda, no issues picked up

All of a sudden there is a slight, so not loud but slight whining noise coming when I accelerate or even in idle so seems to go in sync with revs.

Never had an issues with this car apart from the usual wear and tear so wondering is this nothing or something to be worried about , I thought may be a belt or something but drive is 100% fine. Im second owner on the car had it since mid 2016.

Here are two videos, so just the sound, the whine. It only started this week.
Thanks

By checking these two videos I cannot recognize the source for the whiny noise.
This somehow reminds me the sound of my ride with alternator soon needing replace. Luckily its something that you will notice soon from the dashboard lights.
Somehow its just confusing with the mileage so really cannot say anything for sure.
Any symptoms?
Make another recording and lets listen more :)

Agreed. Booked it in for a proper inspection as its getting on my nerves not knowing what it is , Booked Feb 20 will update here.

Also just bought some CSP led bulbs , changed the roof lights. The lens is difficult to remove without damaging it. These bulbs have such a good quality bright light, the old halogen bulbs are the worst. Keeping in mind this is a 2011, but so many new cars have yellow horrible bulbs in the roof lights.

I am in UK. Nothing was done before this happened at all. The sounds happenes in neutral and driving, the whining goes up with the revs. I dont know if it has a power steering pump but its a 2011 EX iDtec 2.2 diesel MK3.
I will do another recording today with engine open. First thing I thought was fan belt but I dont know much.

Main dealers are so expensive thats why I just avoid them but I want to know what it is.

They put it on a ramp and checked all the main engine parts and said cannot find anything.
They took the main belt off I think the one that goes on the alternator and few other things and the noise was still there.

They said if we start stripping the engine its not a good idea and will cost money so I just left it but they said its nothing to get too worried about.

I just cant seeing it being the turbo. Got 52k on the clock. I am second owner FDSH apart from 1 or 2 services which were minor services, car very well looked after...never heard a crv turbo go in this situation so I dont know but as soon as it gets louder they said come back which I will do but not going to worry about this now.

Just curious which country? You are right there is a slight whining noise coming from the engine bay. Was anything done before this happened? Have you also tried revving it while in Neutral & get the same whining sound? Does this model still use a Power Steering Pump? From the High Pitch sound it sounds like Power Steering pump or the Alternator. Would you be able to record it close to the pulleys? Would you be able to record close to the Bell Housing near the Torque converter. I hope this helps. Let me know. I will guide you for more trouble shooting.

No symptoms at all in any way. Car fully checked every 12 months, never had an issue. Weird as today the noise isnt there idle it was before, but its there when I rev. Just cant video and rev at same time as on my own til tm.

I got told to not worry about a 'noise' ha, but its different and wasnt there before, I know my own car as its well looked after.

Its way too hard to work out where the noise is coming from , appreciate the replies so I shall take it to a mechanic. Im hoping its just a fan belt that needs adjusting as low mileage well looked after car. But I dont want to ignore a noise.

Got it checked by someone Ive known for 15+ years, he said without taking covers off and looking properly which costs money, he can guess.

Obviously thats hard as so many places a noise can come from in the engine.
His guess is maybe Turbo bearing or bush think he said...asked if I feel loss of power I cant say I have.

Another mechanic I have known for a long time said same thing first without even seeing it...also he said you could wait to see if it gets a little worse as hard to work out where its coming from but I may take it to him anyway to listen to the noise.

Just seems hard to try to fix a noise in the engine which is slight but you dont know where its coming from, also such a well maintained car, should it really happen.

Additional, noticed brakes grind slightly when I press them hard..assuming this is worn pads...they last changed 10,000 miles ago though.

Any opinions on all this, most welcomed.

Not noticing any smoke really from the exhaust unless I idle for a long time but that happened before. No real loss of power too.
Noise is quiet but gets louder as I do more local driving , after around 2 hours or more. Sometimes the noise just stays quiet but Im getting fed up of guessing so I will take it to someone as people are listening and thinking its the turbo but thats not 100% as could be anything.

I dont want to leave it. No point looking at turbos to buy until I am 100% of what it is. Plus I cant see a well looked after car with 52000 on the clock second owner being me , odd the turbo would go I never push the car hard but just want to be 100% .

I will post back to update but its just annoying now knowing something is wrong but not knowing what.

Its hard to tell on a video but the sounds was not there before and sometimes gets louder. It sounds like a zip being done up, syncs with RPM. almost police siren like but not that high pitch. Just have to get it inspected just in case it gets worse.

Oil Shell 0w30 c2/c3

edit.... trying to find similar sounds and this is exactly it, but mine is less loud

This type of noise can be hard to pin down, especially on a recording. It could be any of the belt driven components: alternator, PS pump, or even idler pulley bearing. Or the turbo. It's hard to localize the sound with so many components close together. One thing I would suggest is to buy an automotive stethoscope and place it upon all these components, trying to find where it is the loudest.

Yes. Clutch down or up.
Soon as the engine is on, its there, but quiet , sometimes gets louder after local driving , only happened few times though, mostly quiet.
Its there moving or standing still.
Reminds me of when my fan belt was loose on my N reg Rover 414si, ha ok different sound but that noise was there soon as you turned it on.

Think this has already been suggested but you need to drop your ancillary belt off and see if the noise is still there – You need to individually check the alternator, power steering pump and water pump to see if you have any issues.

If you have no issues on the above items then you need to start think about the gear box first motion bearing, clutch release bearing or even the spigot bearing.

As I advised you before you need guidance of a qualified mechanic actually looking at your CRV otherwise we will be guessing forever.
