Honda CR-V 2018 Long Reliability?

Good evening fellow CR-V lovers. I purchased my 2018 CR-V in January of this year. Now sitting at 7700K miles. I really love the vehicle, its very nice. I traded in a 2016 Honda Civic EXL, so I was pretty much use to everything. But I will get straight to the point... after reading about some issues people are currently having with the car, a couple months in... makes me wonder, how will these CR-V's hold up 10-15 years from now? I plan on keeping mine. I'm worried the most about the CVT transmission. I will definitely maintain it (change the fluid, be gentle when changing gears, ect...) but I'm still concerned. I'm trying to picture a scenario where, lets say in 5 years the belt needs replacing. How much will that cost?

Also, I'm very concerned about all this touch screen technology in the car. This is like an Android phone. How is this going to perform 15 years from now when its long obsolete? What sucks is there are no physical buttons for the infotainment and the climate control is meshed in too. So one cannot upgrade the stereo years down the line?

I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it. I do enjoy the car, but this is an investment. I also found it strange that my alignment was off from the factory. The steering wheel would prefer the right going down a straight road. The dealer charged me $150 to fix, until I escalated it to the manager and was refunded. Now the steering wheel seems much better, slightly preferring the left when driving down the right side of the street, which my mom's car does as well.

So how do you think the 2017-2018 CR-V will hold up 10-15 years from now? Would love to hear your thoughts?

I dont think some of them will last....gas in the oil must be doing long term damage and there seems to be a lot of them out there..our dealer will not give anyone a break on oil changes...just hoping Honda extends our warranty as there is no deal on them here in Canada...but I dont think they will.....Honda has had more then 2 years to fix this problem and yet nothing....any official announcement from Honda ..NO....they are just sitting back and hoping most will last the 5 year engine plan and they dont have to deal with them..Just my Opinion..the word on the problems are getting out there.....my dealer has about 20 off them ready for service sitting in the side yard with none on the lot or showroom...sad part is I love our CRV even with its share of problems and the hondas we had before this one,,,but the quality and care has gone downhill.....

Wandering around the Accord, Civic and CRV forums I have yet to hear of a single case of CVT failure. And as Honda started putting CVTs in the Accord in 2013 there are probably a pretty good number of high-mileage examples out there.

By all means keep up CVT fluid changes (I’m planning mine every 30k), but the CVT seems pretty solid to me.

I agree the touchscreen is a question mark, not just from obsolescence but from the stress of heat/cold/sun exposure. If it needs replacing I have no idea of cost and if parts will be available in, say, 10years?

But if I were going to point to a single long-term durability issue it would be the fuel dilution issue as it affects the engine. Time will tell and Honda may come up with a good solution, but if you’re gong to be a long-term owner I’d change the oil a lot more frequently than the MM suggests.

I submit it depends on what you mean by "cause you to do something about it". People with the dilution issue reported it to their dealer, or opened a case with Honda, or maybe just got on a forum and discussed it. So, they DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT even if futile without having any other indicator other than the oil level varied---as in increased.

My poimt was/is that I didn't understand the mocking tone in post #8 asking a poster "Think about what you asked .... do you ever check your oil level ???" For the Honda experience we've had, many Honda owners have had ove the years, checking oil level between scheduled maintenance is a waste of time. I wasn't saying/implying anything about the current dilution kerfufle.

My dad's '05 Special Edition Civic is still going strong. I read that Honda's last for ever. Only thing is that reputation is said for the older cars, not these new ones. I'm not going to sweat the oil dilution issue because I change my oil when it says 50% remaining anyway.

Since this has gone to oil dilution, please continue discussion in the PSA thread. It’s in the sticky section.
Thanks
