2002 Crv Cruise Control shuts off....

2002 Crv 5 speed, 142,000 miles.

Cruise control works as designed except shuts itself off after 1-3 minutes. Must toggle main dash switch off/on to get the cruise to engage again. Then CC works....for 1-4 mintues. Repeat.

I've searched this forum and Google/Bing in general. Numerous possibilities, but no sure solution. Things like cutout switch adjustment on clutch/brake, corrosion, low battery voltage.

Does anyone have experience with this problem/solutions?

Thanks.

cruise control problem

hi, have you found solution to your problem? I am having exact same problem with my crv and already took it to two different honda dealerships but they can't diagnose the problem. If you got yours fixed can you please tell me what was wrong with it. thanx.

In case anyone else is having this issue... mine is a 2002 CRV AT with 250k miles. Cruise control would only engage randomly, and not stay on long. I worked through the entire shop manual diagnostic dance for this problem, and somehow didn?t find the answer... which turned out to be the brake engagement switch needing a little adjustment.

Discovered this as the problem by using my foot to pull up on the brake pedal, while at speed on the highway, and seeing the cruise control working correctly. Got the idea to try that from another car repair blog somewhere.

Fix: remove that panel above the brake pedal so you get clean access to the switch. Unplug the switch. Give it a quarter turn, and then it should be free to come out of its little socket. I took the switch apart and cleaned it, but it probably didn?t need it. Put it back in the socket, a little farther in than it was before, and give it a quarter turn to lock it in. Plug it back in. That?s it. Of course, there is a procedure in the shop manual for measuring and setting everything to spec, so you should do that instead of what I just said.
