Greetings all,

I have a 2015 CR-v, that has just over 256K miles on the clock!! It has been a fantastic car!

Completed all services, oil every 5K, CVT every 30K...

Last week my wife said she experienced some vibrations during acceleration (she said it felt like she ran over some rumble strips), I drove it and noticed that the vibrations were only under load, highway speeds and coasting were fine....

Scheduled an appointment with Honda, on the way to the appointment, my wife said she was accelerating from a stop, heard a "clunk" and lost all power. Engine runs great, no warning lights, just no forward or reverse...

Honda picks up the car and says the CVT transmission is shot.... $6,800 for them to put in a new one!! The CR-V is now a lawn ornament in my driveway...

My question is, where can I buy a "Re-Build Kit" for the CVT?? I'm an aircraft mechanic, so mechanically, I'm sure that I can do it, but I haven't been able to find any of the parts to even begin...

Thanks,

Smitty

I think you’d be better off buying a CVT from a salvage lot. My understanding is that CVTs are difficult to rebuild and Honda dealers won’t even attempt to do so, relying on Honda’s sole remanufacturer instead.
I checked junk yards (car-parts, anyway) and CVT's range from $1500 to $2500 depending on mileage, does anybody know who Honda uses as their re-manufacturer??

I did a rebuild of a Jatco CVT in my daughters 2004 Murano about 2 years ago. Getting some parts was not easy to do. I can understand why many rebuilt CVT's don't last, at least that particular brand. I've watched youtube videos and the people doing some of that work do not address some real problem areas when reassembling them. Too much rushing to get them together.

My CVT (2015 CR-V EX-L) lasted 129k miles. Just had a brand-new (not a rebuilt) direct from Honda installed and it works WAY better than the original (I bought the car brand-new)... I guess something wasn't right with the transmission from the start but at least it lasted 129k miles probably from how gingerly we drive it. Maybe if I drove it like I see other folks driving these days it would have failed under warranty? Ugh. This is an expensive failure.
