Newer thread for 2022 as the old one simply had too much old stuff.

Cheers.

Picked up a new 2022 EX-L yesterday from Hare Honda in Avon, IN. This was a 2-1/2 hr drive from our home, but the only dealer we could find who would sell the vehicle at MSRP. A $3,000 markup is common in the Dayton/Springfield, Ohio area where we live.

Vehicle price (MSRP + destination charges) was $34,225. Title, documentary prep and a "tire fee" (only $1.25) added a total of $230.25. Our trade-in was valued at $500, making sales tax $2459.49. We elected (no dealer pressure) to buy a Platinum extended warranty contract from Fidelity Warranty Services at $2620.00, making our grand total $39,034.74.

We had put a $500 deposit on this car in mid-January, with a scheduled build date of 2/8 - 2/13. The sales agent expected they would get it in March, but checked the lot over the weekend and found it had arrived! Final assembly point was Greensburg, IN so it didn't have far to come.

The sales agent told us their allocations have not been increased, and all of the stock they have coming in is already sold; so they are having to tell new buyers to wait. We were lucky to have put the deposit down when we did!

Cancel that as quick as you can! If you really feel that you need a warranty, you can find an actual Honda warranty for less than half that cost.

I appreciate you sharing your pricing information… but I also gotta say, for every new car I’ve bought over the years, I always look for a thread like this based on the car I want to buy… and I always see the bulk of the replies quoting sticker (which is identical across the country if it’s the FACTORY sticker, and NOT the addendum BS like “door edge guards” or whatever)… then, the total with taxes.

Everyone’s taxes are different, so it’s hard to judge what OTD price they may try to get… or expect to get.

Here in Saint Louis, Missouri, the best you can do in March of 2022 on any Honda… as long as you go to Bommarito, Mungenast, or Honda of Frontenac… is MSRP, plus $500 in accessories (all-weather mats, plus some other BS that’s about $150-200… to equal $500 total) and now, in Missouri, the legislature passed (up to) a $499 dealer/admin fee… 1-2 dealers only charge $399, but most are $499, and they always say it’s the law or otherwise say they HAVE to according to the state. I never correct them, but they could choose to lower this, and once this nonsense gets back to normal I’m sure people will haggle about that $499 fee.

So essentially… the cost for a CR-V HERE is whatever the national sticker says (that you can see from Honda directly) then add $999… $500 of which is arguably a reasonable value because it can be stuff you want anyway… and the other $500 ($499) is our newly approved Dealer/Admin Fee.

If anyone in Missouri goes to Napleton… they get POUNDED with Market Adjustment… which for a CR-V… when I looked there, was around $4K… so they wanted around $39K for an EX-L w/ red paint.

West County Honda was similar, with around $2K - 2,500 in “value added” extras, like door bumper guards (horizontal molding, which I admit actually looks nice)… but the premise is when you eventually trade-in or sell your car it’s worth more. I’m sure in 5-10 years the next person will gladly pay $2K over KBB for those door bumpers. ;-)

Now keep in mind with the info above… a CR-V is still hard to find from the dealers who aren’t hosing people, so be prepared to go in, meet a salesman, and put down a $500 deposit on a car that won’t be here for at least a month.

OR… go to Napleton and get a new CR-V this week… for about $4-5,000 too much.

From one of the cool dealers, an EX AWD would be $31,635 plus $395 for the premium color (sonic gray) so $32,030… and my guess is, you also got all-weather mats and cargo tray for the additional $290, unless the dealer did mudflaps or something else.

For anyone else who posts from around the country, I’m curious about the dealer fees and any “market adjustment”(?) Or if you quote sticker, please note what part is dealer add-ons.

Compared to buying in Missouri, we would call that $32,284 OTD with a premium color worth $395. We pay TTL at the DMV about 2 weeks to 30 days after buying the car.

Based on your trade-in situation, I think you got a big win.

A CR-V wasn’t the only small SUV I was considering, but having 3 local “No BS” dealers pulled me away from the other possibilities. I was happy to wrap things up, and the more I drive it the more I like it. There’s something about it that’s hard to define, but satisfying.

I hope you’re enjoying yours, along with knowing you got a good deal.

My wife heard an ad for our local Honda dealer saying that no car would be sold over MSRP. So, since we are looking for a new CRV I went in and put my name on a build of a 2022 CRV Touring with a build date of 5/8/2022. At the build date the salesman said we may be ask for a 500 dollar deposit but lately they have not been holding a customer to that. The vehicle would show up at the dealer around a month after the build date. Below is a link to the offer. The strange part is that it looks like they made a mistake. In going over the final cost, the salesman struck out the $2500 cash to be paid on delivery line but it still showed the $7500 total credits which includes my $5000 trade in. I assume this will be found at final payment, but it seems odd that they would make this kind of mistake on an invoice. The accessories were not negotiable and include wheel locks, mud flaps, and rear cargo liner. User fee and administrative processing fee were again not negotiable and it was not clear what they were about. The salesman mumbled a few things. He actually said the destination charge was not apart of the fees.

To me selling a vehicle "At MSRP" means as it came from the factory, any "required" accessories would be adding to that price.
But considering the market today I'd say you did well, those add-ons are useful and not too expensive.
As for the "fees", who knows?

Dropbox is pushing me to the app, so I didn’t get to the full breakdown… but IMO, if you get (what you feel) is a good deal set up, I would absolutely put down a $500 deposit on the deal. If you don’t, they have no real obligation to you, or the deal.

The market being what it’s been, I had multiple deposits out, just waiting for one of the dealers to come through (and cancel the remaining deals)… it’s not like you’re hurting a dealer… they will sell the deal you dropped IMMEDIATELY to a happy customer who just got their wait reduced. This is exactly how I got my own CRV sooner than expected.

I am located in Maryland. Paid 38,250 OTD for a 2022 red Honda CR-V EX-L AWD with no additional addons, the attached picture is the estimate they gave then we talked it down to 38,250. Is that a fair price? I think it is really high considering everything but another dealership was offering 40,800 OTD for the same car and trim but a hybrid version, which should be similar in MSRP according to the Honda website. I only got quotes from those 2 dealerships but do you think a Hyundai Tucson Blue, Rav4 XLE, Rav4 Prime would have been better?

At the time I bought in 2020 the upcharge for the hybrid drive was about $1200.
This assumes you wanted AWD in the first place, as all hybrids are AWD in the US.

Obviously I don't think any of those other options would have been "better", or I would have bought one of them. :)

IdleSicko… I’m not sure what to make of the picture compared to your text. This is a picture of an estimate from one of the dealers where you did not buy(?)

The standard destination in the USA is $1225.

On the deal pictured, the dealer has AMV, which is the same as “market adjustment”, but “adjusted market value”. That line is a dealer markup. You got them to take that off(?)

Does your OTD include all taxes and fees? No additional state taxes? Here, taxes would be about 2500… so with taxes paid that doesn’t sound too bad.

Hopefully you got a couple tangible perks in that total price. Here dealers will add dealer-options and add them to the sticker, but if you get those at the normal price, I still consider it a decent MSRP deal… as I’d appreciate the mudflaps, all-weather mats, etc.

You’re in the zone. I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. 😘👍

If you look at KBB.com… “what’s my car worth” you’ll see a comparable number (subtracting the taxes) and that tells you that you did okay.

KBB vs. deals I could make, steered my own purchase. I think you’re fine on your deal.

Realistically in spring of 2022, nobody is getting anything off the official factory sticker MSRP. Not counting TTL… if you can get a CRV with nothing extra, and $500 or less for fees, that’s about as good as it gets.

After that would be desired dealer add-ons, at the normal dealer prices. (You get mudguards on the deal and pay $120 extra, etc)

That’s all best-case currently. Anything close to that, and you can feel good about it. For any “packages” added to the deal, all you can really do is weigh the cost vs the real cost of what’s desired and included.

And yes, all premium colors; Sonic Gray, Pearl White, Red… add $395.

I guess I paid around 1000 more than what you paid for an equivalent car, but its a month later and closer to when the 2023 CR-V is coming out. I just got the base Red EX-L AWD with no add ons at all. I guess it is okay in this market and considering that it is spring so there would be no winter discounts or anything. Not a price where I would say I got scammed, but not a price that I am too happy about.

And I think another important point, as we’re approaching the end of the month right now… is that “end of month” quota thing is STILL a factor. If a dealer gets in a CRV in the last few days of the month, they still want to sell it before the new month. Sometimes buyers get cold feet, or have legit life reasons to fear a $30K purchase and back out at the last minute. If you swoop in, ready to make it quick and easy, you’ll get a reasonable deal.

I doubt there was a CRV not spoken for, but rather someone backed out… this is how I got my own, sooner than expected… and that triggered the same thing for someone at another dealer, where I canceled my other deposit.

Since we’re entering the last week of March… heads up kids. ;-)

That accessory padded invoice is common in the Midwest. If it’s $500 and you get $500 of legit value (all-weather mats, mudflaps, cargo tray)… then I think it’s reasonable.

$1225 destination shouldn’t be considered in the “extras” or fees, column. EVERYONE pays that in the USA.

Admin or Dealer fee (not both) of $199-499 (depending on state) is also non-negotiable in Spring 2022.

In Saint Louis, West County Honda adds $2000 in dealer added plastic… Napleton just straight up adds $4K for markup… meanwhile the other dealers are fairly ethical, hitting you for $500, but giving you about $500 worth of plastic for it.

I humbly suggest anyone reading this thread check with all the dealers in their area, by how far they’re willing to drive. Napleton, which is the worst place to buy a Honda in St. Louis because of that “market adjustment” was packed… and the first thing they say is that everyone is charging that, but they aren’t.

Hello all. It's been a while since I posted in this forum. I just picked up yesterday my 2022 CRV EX-L. I paid $33120 plus tax, title, license. I am in the Phoenix area. My dealer is the only one within 100 miles that did not charge market value or add any dealer installed options. (Not even window tint). I actually "only" paid MSRP. I had a 2015 CRV Touring that was totaled on Dec. 5. It took until early February before I was able to put a deposit on a car in the color and trim level that I wanted. As I said, I took delivery of the car yesterday.
It's a crazy market. 1-2 year old used cars are going $2500+ over new car prices. New cars are going for $3000-$5000 more than MSRP.

On the search for a Sonic Gray EX-L hybrid will be watching this closely. Can confirm the following though

Jeff Wyler Cincinnati - 5k to 8K markup
Joyce Koons- Manassas, VA Approx 3 to 4k markup
Southpoint, Durham NC - no markup but adds paint and fabric protection as mandatory
Did you try Leith Honda in Raleigh or Cary, NC….they are advertising no mark up over MSRP, not sure about adders. It was a different time (August 2020), but I got Southpoint to remove most of their adders.
