You got a great deal, IMO. 39.5K is just about the best price I've come across in this forum, you got this relatively scarce vehicle for $1300 below MSRP, and with no BS add-ons like "documentation fees". I'm also in the market for one, but the dealers here in NorCal / Bay Area still want 2K markup (43K+). 39.5K has been my target price as well, and I would jump at such a deal.

I already own a 2014 CRV, and looking for a 2nd one to replace our aging (2005) Honda Odyssey. Love both my Hondas.

Sure, Got a discount around 1600 off MSRP and one accessory/add-on for free - Body molding. According to Honda website cost is $260.

I asked for two accessories/add-on's for free - body molding and door edge gaurd. Dealer agreed to one.

In May 2023, we agreed to purchase. My wife wanted an ex white w/gray interior. The dealer had on coming in August. Fast forward to August (the expected delivery date), our expected delivery date came and went. After some emails from the dealer, it was discovered our vehicle was stuck at the Canadian/US border.
We kept getting the run around from the dealer, “2 weeks, it will be here in 2 weeks”. Well 2 months later still no vehicle, so we had the dealer look for an ex-L with same
Color options and they were able to locate one and get it within 10 days.
We love the EX-L and thankful we got the vehicle we did, could not be happier with it.

Purchased a CRV EX-L AWD, Lunar Silver Metallic with black leather interiors less than a week ago, at a dealership in San Jose. My total price was $38K with following breakdown

MSRP: $36160 + $1325 (destination) = $37485
  • Discounted price ($3K discount): $34485
  • Accessories (door edge guard): $200
  • Doc processing fee: $85
  • Registration / transfer charge: $33
  • Sales Tax (9.125%): $3165
  • Title/License (Title:$317, Vehicle License Fee: $235, CA Tire Fee: $8.75): $561
  • Fresh Grad Rebate: ($500)

Total OTD: ~$38K

The dealer threw in all-season floor mats and cargo tray as complimentary accessories.

The vehicle also comes with "PERMAPLATE" with 3 year warranty for paint and interiors/leather upholstery and "IAS" window etching (theft deterrent).

Originally was looking for Hybrid Sport Touring with a target price of $39,500 ($39K with $500 fresh grad). However I didn't come across any deals at local dealerships in Bay Area which didn't also require me to purchase dealer installed add-ons (that I didn't need). The price difference, vs. the fuel efficiency payoff duration tipped the decision. Apart from not being a hybrid, EX-L has most of the other creature comforts that Sport Touring affords.

A question to all the knowledgeable folks: I didn't opt for the HondaCare warranty 8yr / 120K miles. Wondering if it's worth the investment, and how much should one expect to pay for it (seems like it can only be purchased at a dealership in California).

We ordered ours beginning of December. It was "on the line and should be here mid December". Then the "build date" was slipped till mid December, then slipped again till last week in December, now its scheduled to be built January 02.We will see.....

Our salesman called last week and said a "brand new Touring but in silver just arrived. Come and look at it and see if you want to buy it. Then he called a few minutes ago and pleaded with me to come and look at it. I asked if there was a discount to drive 40 miles to look at it and he said "no, I wish". I'm guessing his sales quota was short in December.

You got a great deal. $3k below stick is excellent negotiating. The best I could do was $1340 below sticker plus a $400 doc fee. Congrats!

Thanks! You might expect similar or better deals through end of the year. I see the non-hybrid models getting deep discounts off MSRP - but one needs to ask! Hybrids are still hard to come by, in most instances require a reservation (they don't have very many in the lots you can pick and choose from) and the discounts are much smaller - $1-1.5K off at best.

The dealer did the paperwork for the Honda Finance, title and plates. He prepped the car, drove it to my house and did a detailed explanation of the features in my driveway. So, yes I was serviced. I noticed other posts here that mention ‘doc fees’ which I assume is something similar.
Document fees are pretty normal these days, and yeah.. they are a few hundred dollars in my most recent experience + the actual fees DMV will charge for title and registration.

Thing is.. they handle all the registration and other paperwork with the DMV, including a transfer of title if you have a trade-in. Personally, in my view it is money well spent to NOT have to go to the DMV and wrangle with them and have them run you in circles until you get things right with them.

Vehicle prep should be included in the MSRP as it IS required by Honda before a vehicle is properly configured for a buyer. But it would not surprise me to hear some dealers are padding this and other misc things they do which frankly should be good will on the part of a Honda dealer and not an extra charge.

Have you price checked Anderson Honda in Palo Alto? Actually solicit them for an internet price quote?

I ask because in my experience they do not mark up over MSRP, nor do they pack on after market additions (not even wheel locks) onto their vehicles to push up the price tags. Granted, it's been a few years since my last purchase with them, but they really have been the best dealership in the bay area for buying new Hondas in my experience. They also have always exceeded my expectations on any trade-in as well... offering me more than my KBB lookup assessments on price.

Worth a shot, nothing to lose. :)

Guys, please help me to reconcile my thoughts. I have a 2018 CRV EX-L with 10,193 miles, perfect, no dents/scratches, outside and inside look brand new and shiny; including leather seats with no wrinkles or marks, lifetime third party powertrain warranty, and AC compressor warranty for 10 years by Honda. Went to the dealer (Florida) for an oil change and they talked me into a 2024 CRV Sport Touring Hybrid AWD for 19,861 OTD. After reading that mostly people are only getting 31 to 32 mpg mixed driving and I would face a battery replacement in 8 to 10 years, I rescinded the deal. I only drive 2,000 miles per year because work and shopping are close by. I could not justify the deal. I think the payback is not there. Plus, I like the looks of my 2018 better than the 2024. What do you think, is my logic flawed?

Let me clarify, the OTD price is with my trade of course.

I think you made an excellent choice. Doesn't sound like there was any reason to get a new car.

Thank you for confirming Ravenuer, I was torn about it because it was a great deal I think. But I would rather have the almost $20K in my pocket/bank, especially since my CRV is like new and gets 38 mpg hwy and around 25 - 27 in the city.

You will never make up the $20k in gas saving by purchasing the hybrid. Your 2018 is in top notch condition. Keep it…IMHO.

Great advice MyFirstCR-V, that was my line of thinking after I left the dealership. I am glad I rescinded. Maybe one day when the Honda Hybrids get much better mpgs, if possible, it would make sense. Thank you for confirming.

MPG is not the only reason to consider a hybrid. IMO they also deliver better driving experience vs their ICE equivalents with instant torque from a stop, seamless start/stop transition, etc.

However, trading a 5 year old vehicle in perfect working order for a new car will rarely make economic sense.
