Hello! 1st Gen crv mt decided to lose all power while driving back from the lake!
pulled over to a safe spot and checked all connections-fine. Then pulled spark plug coil packs-put a screw driver in them and placed them near a good ground (strut tower) and saw no spark for cylinder 1!
Came back the next day and installed a new distributor-boom have a spark on all 4 coil packs to the strut tower using a screwdriver to connect the two. Went to start vehicle and sounded like it wanted to start once but just a crank! Realizing afterwards I should have brought the motor to TDC then installed the distributor, I am going to head back (about 30 miles) after work today-uninstall distributor, set motor to TDC (checking crank timing marks+extension in spark plug hole) then install the distributor and see if she will start! Is there something more I am missing? Should I borrow a timing light? Is this even the proper procedure for installing a new distributor? I have ruled out any fuel issue. Any kind of advice is greatly appreciated!
when vehicle died mid drive-vehicle was cold and felt a stutter of acceleration at about 20-28mph and just died, fallowed by a fuel smell assuming the injectors spit fuel into the non electrified cylinders. Since I’m getting a spark now I can only assume it’s the timing of the new distributor that is keeping me from getting a running motor.
Replaced the whole distributor unit.
have ECM running on OBD1 with a civic flash-should I still jump the service harness in the passenger foot area?
