Is it easy to replace the engine air filter and the cabin filter on a
2024 Hybrid CR-V Touring? The dealer wants nearly $80 to do the cabin filter.

Just be careful ordering on Amazon. Several of the engine filters that are described as fitting have multiple reviews saying that they do not fit. I was happy with Ecogard filters for my Gen 5, but they don't have one for Gen 6 hybrid yet. Anybody know of a quality verified fit filter they can recommend?

The cabin air filter for the 2023-2025 CRV is part number 80291-TF3-E01, this is the same part number that fits into the 2019-2022 CRV. Some of the listings for the cabin filters on Amazon only lists up to 2022.

The engine air filter for the hybrid is part number 17220-6MA-J01

Use the Honda part number to search on Amazon to ensure you get a part that fits.

KennethL - Wix filter must be fairly new; didn't have one the last I checked. Wouldn't pay more than for a Honda filter but good to know it's available. Napa filter doesn't look right online, but pictures aren't always accurate. Do you know who makes them now?
Agree on K&N; never could find any supporting info proving their claims.

The 17220-6MA-J01 engine air filter, or aftermarket equivalent, fits all CR-Vs & Accords 2023 to 2025 with the 2 liter engine.

NAPA now has oil filters made for them in China; I don't know about air filters. Other NAPA Chinese parts have given me good service. (There are only two auto parts stores in my town, and some parts I want to look at and check on the counter so I can return them easily if I ordered wrong.)

With 6 generations of the V on the road today, knowing the year & trim level of the vehicle in question helps those asking & those willing to respond.

Be sure to include your location so when a member hovers over the flag, it shows where you are. There might be a member close to you who could recommend a reputable shop if needed.

With regards both filters: before you install the new filters, write the date & mileage on either the filter frame or the filter medium. Added security if / when unscrupulous automotive centers show you "your dirty air / cabin filter", suggesting you need to immediately replace them.

I've changed the cabin filter in all our vehicles. Takes maybe 15 minutes, with most of that time trying to replace everything back into the glove box without any of it sticking out.

And customers do not realize that a dirty cabin air filter won't harm their engine. Now, if it breaks or passes dirt through it the AC evaporator may become less effective, and we don't want that, either.

About oil filters...There are no industry standards for oil filters like there are for oils. Aftermarket filter makers reverse engineer the OEM filter and make one similar, or pick one from their existing catalog that is usually "close enough." GPopp gave great examples of quality lapses in filters, and also who knows if the aftermarket filter meets OEM specs. As he states, the filter media has specified size holes in the media for oil to pass but only the tiniest particles can also pass. The media micron rating is critical. And the internal bypass valve* must be at the correct set point and durable. And the internal anti-drainback valve, if fitted, must also work well for the full life of the filter.

Use Honda oil filters in Honda cars at least for the warranty period. The cost is very fair. On youtube and elsewhere there are examples of filters that have been cut open. Notice that there are many variations in the construction of the filters. Some will be OK, and some not so OK, and we don't know which is which until it is too late. Saving a few dollars on a critical item like a filter may not be a bargain.

*The internal filter bypass valve serves an important purpose. In the unlikely event of the filter media getting completely clogged with dirt the filter bypass valve will keep oil flowing to the engine instead of blocking the oil or letting the filter get torn apart. Also, in frigid weather the oil is too thick to filter so is bypassed. Unfiltered oil is better than no oil. Some engines have the filter bypass valve in the filter housing, not in the cartridge. The bypass valve works on the difference in the filter inlet vs. outlet pressure, some open at something like 6 psi differential.
