Hi all, I have myself a 2007 CR-V. The cable inside the handbrake ratchet snapped one day while parking, I have an idea to fix it by drilling out the rivet and bolting in a dirtbike or bicycle drum cable in it's place, however I am apprehensive about potentially causing further damage so wanted to check if somebody has either done this sort of job before, or has an idea of a compatible handbrake from another model that I can install instead. I don't mind having a different looking handle, I just want my car to pass it's roadworthy so I can save it instead of letting it go to waste.

Finding a new component in my area is a nightmare, junkyards and local sale sites have nothing available, I have considered using a generic handbrake off Ebay and just drilling new holes to fit it into my car.

I always held the brick in my grandfathers Vw beetle. When he stopped I’d jump out and put the brick in front of the tire. lol.

depending where it broke or the end came off, a new cable could be made. If it’s snapped at the end you can buy special repair ends for cables or have a rigging shop melt a new end on even. If it broke under the vehicle a splice could be installed.

I wish shipping between countries wasn’t too expensive I know a local lot has quite a few Gen 1 and 2 Vs I could get parts from.

When you say "Handbrake" do you literally mean handbrake? or are you talking Parking brake that you activate with your foot?
In the states, we only have the foot one. It could be a petrol/Diesel thing

I suspect your CR-V is built in Thailand?
You should be able to make a replacement cable, if you can find or reuse the nipples just silver solder them on.
I lived in W Australia in the 70s, had a Holden Torana GTR - great car!
Cheers!
