Headlight bulb replacement suggestions?

Hi all,

I own a 2011 cr-v where the drivers side headlight went out today. The ones in there now are the sylvania silverstar zxe. These were installed probably a year and a half ago.

My question is, are there any other bulbs out there that are better/brighter? The zxe's look nice, but for some reason they didn't seem all that bright to me. Especially in the rain and when there are other cars on the road?

I do not have HID and will probably not put them in either....does anyone have any suggestions? Need to get a replacement set for tomorrow

Much appreciated!

Right now I have the OSRAM Night Breaker and they are brighter than the stock ones I had but not by that much. You can check out www.powerbulbs.com for reviews and ratings and based on what you like see if you can find them in your local shop.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Its funny, i have run into a fj cruiser and civic forum while doing a google search on certain bulbs and comparisons and there are actual posts and pictures of people doing tests. Anyone know if the our cr-v forum has one? I couldn't seem to find one.

.....at the end of the day, this is a kind of a tough decision. The only stores near me (advanced auto parts and autozone) carry the zxe's as the brightest bulbs as i had before. So whatever i get i need to order. Hopefully i still have my stock bulbs from before i get a new pair

I checked autozone and their prices are terrible, OMG, for crap bulbs

PIAA is among the most expensive and trustworthy bulbs, and from the looks of it $50 for the pair online, autozone wants more than 50 for a pair of sylvania lol

if you go PIAA ebay has them for just under $50
aside from that if you want to go the poor man route, nokya whites are similar to stock

OR (I can mail you my stock bulbs pay for shipping call it a day lol)

I have OSRAM Silverstar 2.0 H4 (Twin) from powerbulbs.com 27$ CAN and I like them a lot. I've read some posts in this forum of others that installed them (with pics) and compare to others bulbs like Night Breaker ... and I don't regret my choice.

The bulbs in my '09 were several years old and getting a bit dim, and I also noticed that the lens covers were a bit cloudy from exposure and road abrasion. I first polished the lens covers with a drill attachment included in a Mother's restoration kit - took about 30 minutes each and came out shining like crystal... Huge improvement. I really don't care for tinted headlight bulbs (plus ANY coloring on the bulb actually decreases light output, and blue is more reflective in wet weather causing hazy glare) but wanted something brighter if possible, though not bulbs I had to replace every few months. After a bit of Googling I decided on a set of Philips VisionPlus bulbs... they were highly rated for both brightness and service life. I can't tell you if they are actually "60% brighter" than "normal" bulbs, but I can tell you they are rated at 60/67 watts vs the 55/60 watts the original bulbs had imprinted on them, so they are physically higher energy. Some additional research confirmed that the stock wiring harness was capable of the power increase (9.9 amps vs 9 amps each / both beams on). All in all, a worthy $20 investment that are definitely much brighter than my older bulbs, and a nice clear bright white/yellow light.
