I want to unlock the driver's door, but the vehicle tries to keep it locked

I'm trying to troubleshoot my daughter-in-law's 2006 CR-V.

The issue is when you insert the key into the driver's door lock cylinder and turn the key clockwise to unlock the door, you can feel the lock mechanism pushing on the key trying to turn it back (counterclockwise) as the vehicle tries to (re)lock itself.

If you hold the key turned clockwise, the car cycles through "autolock" a couple times (two, three, four, six, nine times... with all the doors' lock mechanisms making noises) then finally gives up and allows the driver's door to stay unlocked.

Just replaced the driver's door lock acuator with one I bought off of Amazon, but the problem remains exactly the same.

I'm wondering what to do next to troubleshoot the problem.

Note: There is no issue unlocking the passenger door with the key. There is no issue with the master door lock switch on either door. There is no issue unlocking the driver's door with the key fob (a.k.a. remote transmitter)

Key fob unlock button one press: LIGHTS FLASH TWICE, DRIVER"S DOOR UNLOCKS
Key fob unlock button second press: LIGHTS FLASH TWICE BUT NO OTHER DOORS UNLOCK
Key fob lock button: WORKS - LIGHTS FLASH ONCE ALL DOORS LOCK
Key fob hatch glass release; WORKS
Key fob panic button: WORKS

Please post the solution if you find it. My '06 locks itself about once every two years, it never became more frequent, so I haven't put the time into chasing the issue down. I always carry a second, blank key with me, that can only unlock the door ( no transponder ). The last time it happened, my CRV was running, in the street, late at night, 20 degrees outside and my other key was miles away.

Sorry for the delay. The 2006 Honda CR-V finally made it back to our place where I could do some more testing. I tried removing the following fuses one at a time: underhood fuses F3, F5 and F9, and underdash fuse F10 (handy online diagram found here: Fuse box diagram Honda CR-V 2002-2006). The only one that made a difference was the underhood F9 fuse. When removed, the buttons on the key fob wouldn't work, but the key itself, when inserted, unlocked and locked the driver's door normally.

Sadly I didn't try removing the alarm fuse as suggested by bradleydavidgood777 but will try that next.

Perhaps these links will help you out. The charm.li website hosts a catalog of the same Honda service manual information that the dealership techs use to fix cars. it’s free for model years 2012 and older. There is a lot more info there, I just pulled out a few links that I saw that could be applicable to your problem.

If you live in the U.S. it's getting warmer and this means more moisture in the air. Try this: Use a dispersant to get that electricity attracting & conducting water out of there. WD-40, damp rid, warm garage, sunlight, wind. Lubricate metal on metal with white lithium grease spray & use the nozzle straw in the lock after the WD-40. Silicone spray is for window jams (clean first with air compressor), moldings, and other rubber parts. A little goes a long way.
