Dear all, just curious about what mileage you have on your current 3rd Gen CRV and what parts that you had changed so far (due to natural aging and excluding car accident related repairs as well as regular maintenance items such as engine oil, brake rotors/pads, air and cabin filter changes). Thought that this would help folks here to kind of get some ideas (or heads-up) about what to expect to maintain a 3rd Gen V.

I will start with mine.
  • Model year: 2011 (SE)
  • Current mileage: around 112,151 miles (mixed use - 50% highway, 50% local stop-n-go)
  • Location: San Francisco, California, USA (street parking outside, about ~1.5 miles away from Ocean - salty/moisture air)
  • Parts replaced (or service conducted):
    • Master Window Switch Power Control button front left driver side (35750-SWA-K01), recently in Nov 2023
    • Radiator Cap (19045-RAA-003)
    • Tailgate Lock Assembly 74800-SMG-E01 (after few days of pouring rain parked outside on the street)
    • Latch Assembly (72610-SWA-A01) - (after few days of pouring rain parked outside on the street)
    • Head Cover Gasket Set (12030-R44-A00) Genuine Honda Part (preventive measure when I did the valve adjustment)
    • PCV Valve Assembly (17130-RBB-A01) - (preventive measure as recommended in this forum)
    • Genuine Honda (25430-PLR-003) Transmission Filter and ATF (08200-9008 DW1)
    • Honda Genuine Coolant (Type-2) (OL999-9011)
    • Valve adjustment (at around 110K mile).
    • Also changed the plugs from factory-installed Denso to NGK (at around 110K mile).
    • Honda Genuine 36162-RRA-A01 Purge Control Solenoid Valve Assembly @ around 90K miles. ==> Fixed the "check fuel cap" warning (no need to replace the gas cap seal or the actual fuel tank cap).
I think that's it based on my maintenance record! Other than the B-pillar and C-pillar door trim rust (which I'm really not happy about), so far I'm happy with my CRV and hope to keep it for years to come! I change my engine oil religiously every ~4000 miles.

According to my research, seems like I may need to replace the AC Compressor (at around 150K miles), Starter Motor (between 100K~150K miles? Should I just replace it when approaching 150K miles or wait until it actually fails?), Wiper Motor (signs that it's about to fail?), Key(???), and Blower Motor (?? miles? signs that it's about to fail?) later...

Please share your stories. Thanks!

150k miles mostly city
Seattle WA street parking

-AC relay, under the hood, carry a spare everyone
-AC Compressor, this is a common thing to break, I suggest you replace your's if you have over 100k miles, especially if you use AC often
-Sway bar links, common on all cars, maybe being heavier and taller makes it worse as well
-Radiator cap, this went out very early for me, maybe around 75k miles, I suggest everyone keep a spare in the car
-starter, if yours gives you problem, hit it softly with a hammer, it will give you a few more starts, when I hit mine I was able to drive for weeks, then I replaced it, who knows how much more it could have gone

According to my research, seems like I may need to replace the AC Compressor (at around 150K miles), Starter Motor (between 100K~150K miles? Yes, replace the AC Compressor and starter, they are very likely to fail. I don't know if OEM is even an option for those parts, but in my opinion they don't have to be OEM anyways.

I don't think wiper motors tend to give warning signs, I could be wrong.
Motor? as in engine? It is a Honda and a good Honda engine. It will last 300k easily.

2011 EXL.... 232k miles (purchased in late 2011 with near 20k miles)

A/C relay about a month ago.
A/C condenser about 5 years ago.
Airbag replacement on recall- a few(?) years ago.

No other repairs- just routine maintenance, tires, brakes, wiper blades, plugs, batteries, ect.....
All service and maintenance done at an independent Honda Shop. Fortunate to have one just about 4 miles away.

2015 EX....120k miles. (purchased July 2022 w/110k miles)
No repairs so far, just maintenance. Battery is 3.5 yo- may go soon!?

Edit: 02/09/24..... 😢 starter!.... had a Denso installed. Battery still good.

2009 EX-L, 298,000 kms (185,000 miles). Slocan Valley, BC, Canada.
Bought Oct 2018 from original 'service anal' owner :)
Same month/year we did an 11,000 km round trip through 'middle America' to visit wife's siblings in Georgia, S. Carolina and Florida. Returned through Kentucky to pick up a flail mower for our tractor - saved shipping!
Anyway, from the seller:
2009 AC clutch replaced - warranty.
2015 door lock recall
2017 driver air bag recall
2018 passenger air bag recall
Since we've owned it:
2021 Hottest day of the year AC quit. I diagnosed it as AC clutch failure but, as it was the original compressor, local indy shop replaced it with a re-manufactured unit.
2021 Starter problems. I replaced the starter with an Ac-Delco 'rebuilt' one, a month later it quit! Replaced with a Delco 're-manufactured' one - still working great today (y)
2023 Replaced rear shocks, links and sway bar bushings to fix mystery 'clunk' from rear end.
2024 Will replace front shocks as they are done.
Cheers! 🍺

2009 icdti, 175k miles and climbing

Serviced every year with OEM parts (since 49k miles) but outside of that.....

x2 clutches and flywheels (first at 80k, 2nd at 174k)
x1 turbo (recon unit @approx 160k miles) and intercooler and associated pipes and gaskets
x1 power steering pipe as it corroded to failure point.
OEM Fuel lines as they had corroded and were leaking.
Drop links, Track rod ends and ball joints etc, need x2 new front shocks soon though as they've been leaking for years now.
May also need some AC parts as that's not worked for a while either 🙄
x1 battery

Possibly a few other bits too 🤔

2011 LX, 115,000 miles

  • A/C compressor was replaced just after the 7-year warranty expired
  • Heating unit replaced last year
  • Fan belt replaced at 100,000 miles. Probably could have gone another 10,000 miles, but what a difference once it was replaced.
  • I had one brake caliper replaced in the back, maybe two, in 2019 or '20.
  • I did have some kind of valve work last year or year before; I need to look that up actually.
  • Resonator replaced in 2020 -- after-market, which I don't think was the best idea in hindsight.
  • I have check-engine light on now, so we'll see what's next!

154,000 on my 2009 EX Purchased New.

Items replaced
  • AC Compressor (Replaced with a better quality Denso model)
  • Starter (Replaced with an aftermarket - Duralast Gold Model - Auto zone - still going strong after three years
  • Front Shocks
  • Rear Shocks
  • Air Bags through Recall
  • Door Actuator through Recall
  • Valve cover Gasket and lower side gasket
  • PCV Valve
  • Currently on it's 4th Battery

Since I also had a new 1998 CRV first generation, a few things jumped out at me. Drove until 160k
  • Never had to replace AC Compressor - The original was a Denso
  • Had same shocks the entire time. Never replaced
  • Never had to replace the Battery until 8 years. - The original was a Panasonic Battery
  • Never replaced starter.

Interesting how Honda's suppliers started cheapening parts over the years. One thing that has stood the test of time was always the Engine.

2007 CRV LX AWD,
Replaced many things but do not have mileage when done. Got it used, when it was about 89k. It is now about 120k and 5 years later.

Replaced, ...
Air filter,
outer tie rod end,
sway bar links,
tires (4),
spark plugs,
valve cover gasket,
AC compressor,
speakers,
brake rotors fronts only,
front right wheel bearing,
right rear caliper and brake hose,

battery (a couple of times),
Installed remote starter,
starter motor,
installed heated side mirrors,

tranny fluid,
many oil changes and filters,
power steering fluid and partial brake fluid change,
brake pads on all wheels at least once.

What were the symptoms you experienced in your CRV that led you to replace the front wheel bearing? The reason I ask is that my 2009 CRV has 193,000 miles on it, and I'm just worried that the wheel bearings might need to be changed out real soon.

Great question. I was hoping to find a discussion like you started about Gen3 CRVs. I bought my pre-owned 2009 CRV in 2011 in NY state. I had moved from Texas to the Hudson Valley area in 2010 and immediately determined from my first winter there that I was going to need a 4W-drive SUV. I researched other brands and settled on the Honda CRV, because I did not see the corrosion damage that I saw in other brands of SUVs. I'm back in Texas now and my CRV has 193,000 miles and it's still a great and reliable vehicle. I've driven the heck out of it and it just keeps on delivering the kind of service I hoped to get in a reliable Japanese vehicle.

The leather seats are still in great condition, but the arm rests are totally worn out. I think the arm rests may not be leather. I’m thinking that Honda may have used vinyl on the door upholstery.

In addition to the normal scheduled routine maintenance, such as oil changes (5k), brakes, fluid flushing, batteries, wipers, tune-ups, tires, etc. The following were some of the unscheduled service repairs that it required:
57,559 mi - Serpentine belt and tensioner replacement
88,043 mi - Airbag inflator recall
94,115 mi - AC compressor replacement
103,161 mi - Replaced spark plugs.
105,118 mi - Coolant service
107,706 mi - Power steering rack and pinion replaced.
110,573 mi - A/C relay replaced, Evac and recharge.
122,993 mi - Transmission fluid drain and fill
118,830 mi - Starter replaced.
150,726 mi - Transmission and differential flush and fill
141,857 mi - Front struts replaced.
161,485 mi - AC system flush and brake fluid flush and refill
161,589 mi - Alternator replaced.
178,415 mi - A/C condenser & compressor replaced.
184,336 mi - Power steering, brake system, and cooling system fluids flush and refill
187,246 mi - Rear frame safety brace recall
192,620 mi - Power steering rack and pinion replacement

What I'd like to hear from other Gen3 CRV owners, has your CRV experienced any major engine, transmission, and/or drive train issues. Should I worry about wheel bearings going out on my CRV that's approaching 200k miles?
