Analog speedometer. Interesting.

 

Echos the approach they took in the current generation Accord. Once you try it, I think most owners will really like it.

Besides.. it's an analog display, but I bet it is driven from a digitally derived signal.

 

If its anything like the UK Civic Hybrid, lower trims have a part analogue/digi cluster while the top models are all fully digital.

Feels like a backward step really from the 5G, although I'm sure Honda has reasons for it.

 

I wonder, is the analog speedometer on both the ICE and the hybrids? In the UK, high end trims might have peer pressure that drives them to put a particular feature into the vehicle in a particular way.

Personally, I have always felt digital speedometers are rather cheezy in most vehicles. Then again I was raised on old school vehicles with all analog gauges. My first digital instrument cluster was in 1986 on a Taurus EX, and it did it;s job but I found it lacking in aesthetics.

With analog meter, you get not only current speed but also can at a glance get a real feel for how fast you are accelerating and hence can lift-off of speed a bit easier and ahead of time.

From a Honda perspective.. I bet they are current styling with analog speedometers since it does sort of feed into their emerging "sporty" and "rugged" styling themes.

In any event.. they did not ask us our opinion or give us a vote. In fact... I have seen a lot of different questions in Honda marketing surveys they push to me... but I do not recall them ever asking my preferences for type of speedometer.

Looks like partial digi-dash is standard for all US/Can models.

Nothing to suggest any trim gets the full kaboodle.

The US Honda site is kind of a mess right now. And Honda Brochures are a joke now.

The only owners manuals I could find are for Hybrid and it does show a split digital/analog display for hybrids.

Next I drilled down to a build cycle on a Hybrird and an ICE. In doing so, I then checked the interior photo view of the vehicle in build:

- What I observed is the ICE models do indeed have the mixed analog/digital instrument cluster as well as a mechanical shift lever.

- On the hybrid models the photos displayed a digital instrument cluster (very similar to gen5), [which is in conflict with the published manual] and the shift lever is replaced with shift buttons (which makes complete sense for a hybrid).

So I guess we are going to have to wait and see actual photos from actual owners of ICE and hybrid trims to see what the truth is here... since Honda apparently can't be bothered... which is odd considering many buyers are buying sight unseen now days because there is no inventory on lots.

I'm sure Honda continues to have slightly different configurations for US and for Canada... which just further confuses everything to some degree.

Update: BoostedV sent me a youtube of a walk through of both side by side. Instrument clusters are the same, as is the shift lever. Yet again, the US Honda site cannot be trusted for accuracy right now.

 

Very cool truck i was super interested then i couldnt pull the trigger since it didnt wow me, i sold my rdx and left honda for more tech options in stuff but who knows how it will pan out

i noticed myself taking a little too much enjoyment in looking at the movement of the analog speedometer in my wife’s accord whenever I drive it lol

I've said it before and will say again: analog clockwork will be the expensive upgrade in future vehicles.

Because its the 1.5T CVT engine with different pseudo "gears". The Hybrid is direct drive with no gears hence why it has buttons. No shifter required.

How are you liking it after driving it around for a few days?

 

I like the new look both the exterior and interior look great it's too bad that they had to decontent the sport edition, no exhaust finishers. no fog lights, and smaller wheels, and the taillights look cheap compared to the 5th gen lights.

I really like the black wheels as well. Wish Honda would dump Hankook tires however. I much prefer Michelin and that is what I put on my '19 EXL.

 

I much prefer the dials for HVAC in this new gen. Very simple but elegant integration into the dash layout!

I hate the process of pushing button to cycle thru the vent options, just to over-press by one, and then having to go thru the cycle again… or worse, the first yr of the last gen Civic, when they eliminated buttons completely, I was a passenger in my coworkers car and had to fight the touch screen to change the temp/fan, can’t imagine doing this as a driver while paying attention to the road.

 

On a different note, I saw the new HR-V today. Better looking in person than in the pics I'd seen. It's considerably bigger looking on the outside, rivaling the Gen 5 CR-V from what I could see. This would lead me to believe that the Gen 6 CR-V is noticeable bigger looking than the outgoing Gen 5. I hope so.

 

I drove a 23 HR-V about a week ago. It is nowhere near the vehicle a CR-V is. THe $10K difference in price really shows up in the interior, and the cargo area is considerably smaller (10 cuft. less).

I put my name in for a 23 CR-V Sport Hybrid. It's scheduled to be built in December and delivered in January.

 

Interesting that the Sport model has a channel/station select button on the head unit, but the Honda pics for the new EX-L trim doesn't have one. Like the storage cubby under the dash.

IIRC, a review from CNET early on about the '23 version of the CR-V said it was a bit wider and longer.

 

Congrats on the new Ride! I will be anxious to hear what you think after logging some miles. Great looking vehicle and definitely one of the contenders when we move forward with our next vehicle purchase.

 

That is the front runner for the color I would like to get. Looks good with the black wheels too.

Could you do me a favor and measure the height of the cargo opening? Also, since usually the actual ceiling inside is an inch or two higher, could you measure that too? I have certain items that I am always putting in and out of my current car and the opening and ceiling heights are plenty high, but they wouldn't fit in the last generation of CR-V.

 

Purchased mine this week, it arrives next week. Will this thread be open soon so we can start providing pricing info?

Glad to have the traditional gear shifter, that was one of the features that sold me on waiting for the 2023 MY over a leftover '22.

Yeah don't underestimate the new CRV with good tires.

Falken Wildpeaks and BFG Trail Terrains combined with the new AWD system should be a great setup.

The 5G is lacking a lot.

I went to my local dealer and looked at at 23 EXL in gray with black interior . I had the option to test drive it but declined for a couple of reasons. First of all, I had a hard time spotting it in EX/EXL trim. It's pretty generic looking for 37k plus any dealer markups. It gave me a base Tiguan feel. The interior is 100% Civic which is not bad but I would have thought they could have been clever and changed a couple of things. Center console looks smaller inside and although Honda claims more room from a cargo standpoint it was not noticeable . One issue was the back seat that was perched higher so if your long in the body head room is an issue. Rear USB ports are an option and the levers to release the back seats from the rear has been deleted. Over all I think it is a good choice but it looks like Honda's bean counters had their hand in the final design. Just a note- The 2 sport options look better IMO but will come at a price. If you have a low mileage 20-22 I would be hard pressed to trade up!

 

To be fair the 17-22 CRV was generic in nature compared to the competition. Old clunky head unit

I think most review pick it as more of the same thing. Generic with updates.

Lastly as for price I would agree except if you go price the compeition, everything is high. A Chevy Equinox was a sub $20k vehicle 5 years ago and is a 30k vehicle now. We are in different times.

 

Too much attention is paid infotainment and screen size. 7 or 9 inch screens are not class leading. I do agree on the simplicity about it and you can navigate around easier . Went back to a high volume dealer around me and they had a ex on display. Not feeling it. My opinion was it was cheapened compared to a 22 ex. Better seats. Nope. More room?. On paper perhaps but to it felt smaller inside. There was a couple of sales people around and we started talking about it and they where even displeased at the new model. They expected more from Honda's bread and butter model. They did indicated no hybrid models until after the first of the year and they expected the new Pilot around the same time. Even with it's lack luster engine and lack of amenities they said the HRV was the hot seller. It's a 2-3 month wait. Perhaps it is the pricing. 30K for a new car now is cheap!

Not to rain on anyones parade, but the 6G infotainment system is a marginally updated one that first appeared in the Accord at least 4 years ago.

Generationally, its already behind. Especially as the next Accord moves to full Google integration. Ditto the 2023 Prologue.

 

Update- After looking at and driving a 23 EX with many extra's I decided to purchase one. I got platinum white with the darker wheels and a tail gate spoiler. Rear seat protecters, cargo and winter mat and body side protection. Full tint and car nose mask. My wife liked the look. 39k with all the options and a 1k dealer mark up included. Love the new safety with additional rear seat air bags. Stiffer body is impressive. Like the free 2year maintenance included. Pricey, but I got 30k for my 20 EX with 15k on it. One question for the team- Do you think I should dump the Bridgestone Ecopia HL 422? or keep them for a while? I'm in Colorado burbs so we get some snow but nothing extreme. Don't do mountain driving. Also went from black(nightmare to keep up with) to white which is very nice.

 

Wait till you get your car @PHG and then decide.

Might be that the tyres are just fine. Why waste money prematurely?
