It should pop off towards the ceiling. The diagram below shows the arrow pointing down when installing.

 

I just bought my CRV. It is a 2005 with a factory roof rack. One of the cross bars is loose and vibrates when driving. It's quite noisy. Does the diagram apply to the factory roof rack for the 2005 CRV? I need to remove it and tighten it up.

Yeah, they just snap off!

 

There's a small slot at the base that you can fit a flat tip screw driver into. Pry gently upwards and it should release the snap feature. Then you can lift it off.
