It probably is a coincidence, this is kind of a common problem for many different brands of car, I did the same once upon a time to my old Ford Mondeo and my friend says he has done it to a lot of cars. I think the airbag circuit is a bit sensitive to slight connection problems, maybe erring on the side of caution to ensure that the airbags will actually work if ever needed. Glad to hear your light went out in the end
Mine has remained off ever since I sorted it out, so fingers crossed that everything keeps working for us.
