when ticking off the boxes of the dealers website in order to book app. online the grand total of the 01679 code was 499$ , add 13% tax and its 575$ . I suppose I could call them tommorrow to ask why it was a tad higher.

code 0 = 99.18/oil+filter
code 6 =76.96/rear diff fluid
code 9 =212.05/brake service w/o parking brake service
code 7 =140.72 brake fluid flush
parts =145.24
labour = 383.67
then a ''supplies'' charge of 26.86
total before taxes 555.77
total with taxes 628.02

whats the supplies charge ?
They are really killing you with that Code 9. I don't know exactly what they are dong there, but the official Honda of Canada maint. handbook for the Gen 5 CR-V calls for nothing more than a bunch of visual inspections for a Code 9. (In the US, they are part of the "B" service, which is every other oil change, and not usually a separate labor line-item.)

I'm going to guess that somehow this dealer is fiddling with how they break down the fees for what is being done with the brakes.

I agree, a 9 is normally folded in as part of a B service price in the US (but is still delineated in the invoice for service as separate line items, at least at my dealership).

I bet if we saw the detailed invoice that shows a breakdown of all parts and labor in that particular visit it becomes more clear... because the price they charged for the brake fluid service is low in my experience for a dealership service.

Maybe we are simply responding to something "lost in translation" from the owner in this case as they read through the service invoice.

you know , there could have been another fee added to this bill if I had not mentioned that my snow tires are going on in 45 days so lets skip the tire rotation .

I also snarked that the tires are coming off for the brake job so why are we charging a fee for a rotation when the tires are already off .

Maybe thats why they added the 28.88 supply fee which has never been thrown my way before as I checked my 2016 crv's records and my current 2020 crv's records and that supply line is always 0.00 .

on the bright side , my next service is just an A :sneaky:

Personally, I have my Honda's serviced by one of the half a dozen dealer in my area... a dealer I have trusted for years for service, and they continue to perform well for me...
There is also a popular theme that we all have a half dozen dealers in our area to choose from. My nearest dealer is 45 miles south. The next is 1 1/2 hours north and then they get even farther away. I basically have no choice but to use the nearest one which is always trying to upsell me with injector/fuel line cleaning, brake cleaning, etc. that are not necessary.

Why not just find a reputable garage and use it? Ask your friends and neighbours which ones they trust and have used long term. Personally I never go to the dealership unless it is a recall/warranty/service bulletin issue. Just keep receipts for proof you have done regular maintenance.

I do this for the minor stuff up through replacing brake fluid. Warranty and work above this I want the dealer to do. Yes, I have all the receipts.

I agree, although Honda and others are making cars more difficult to work on for sure. And, dealers around me have free cookies, some even a lunch, as well as, shuttles home or some pick your car up. Just depends how good your service is.
My dealer quit the free doughnuts and coffee at the start of covid and to my knowledge hasn't restarted.

In my town the only Honda dealer has a terrible reputation. Everyone I know, including myself drives 1 hour east or west to the next Honda dealership to avoid this one for sales and service.

There ARE advantage to living in large urban areas. Advantages that any smart shopper would take advantage of. ;)

If I found myself in the situation you are in, I would cultivate a relationship with a reputable independent service provider that specializes in Hondas and use them for most service work. In my view, it is more important to trust and have a relationship with the shop that works on your vehicles more so than anything else.

Save the dealership for things the independent is not comfortable or capable of addressing (which is happening more and more as these vehicles continue to increase in complexity).

The right approach to take too. (y)

NEVER let any business, dealership or otherwise, try to hold you hostage for their services. If enough folks in your area do the same thing.. the lousy local dealer will likely sell off the business and that means a better business owner may take it up.

there are no honda dealers within 4 hour drive from me but if there were numerous of them you'd have to factor in the ability to easily drop off and pick it up in lieu of reputation .

my dealer is a 10 minute walk from workplace so you really cant beat that for convenience as I'll drop it off with self serve kiosk at 6 am and pick it up after work .

if you login to the Honda owners site you can see dealer service records and create your own
I was checking the Honda website today and I could not see the A1 service record (I did at the dealer last year).
It is almost time to visit them for B16.
Will they add it to my record on request or I should be adding it by myself?

PS:
Some service specials in my area shows the following
B1 for 140$ + tax
Includes
  • Change oil
  • Replace oil filter with Genuine Honda Oil Filter
  • Lubrication
  • Inspect air filter
  • Inspect and adjust idle
  • Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
  • Inspect and adjust drive belts
  • Inspect coolant hoses
  • Inspect front brakes
  • Inspect and adjust rear brakes
  • Rotate tires
  • Inspect lights
  • Inspect wipers
  • Honda multi-point inspection
  • Road test
6 for 150$ + tax
Includes: Replace VTM-4 rear differential fluid & Road test vehicle

I suspect it is dealer dependent. Mine adds the records without me asking, but if yours is not, I’d ask them why they are not.

After service at the dealer, I check the owner site. When they have not entered the information, I enter the information from the invoice. A couple times the dealer entry didn't include a lot of work done, so I made an entry and added the missing information.

I completed my B16 at the dealer and checked why my previous service with them is not updated on the owners website. I got a reply that they never do that. So I will probably add them myself.

Honestly, updates to the Honda owners website would be done by automatically, when the information is uploaded periodically from their VIN/Service data base. Dealers should never touch the owners site.

How often, and how well they push this info to the owners site could be an issue.
