Hi all, I have myself a 2007 CR-V. The cable inside the handbrake ratchet snapped one day while parking, I have an idea to fix it by drilling out the rivet and bolting in a dirtbike or bicycle drum cable in it's place, however I am apprehensive about potentially causing further damage so wanted to check if somebody has either done this sort of job before, or has an idea of a compatible handbrake from another model that I can install instead. I don't mind having a different looking handle, I just want my car to pass it's roadworthy so I can save it instead of letting it go to waste.
Finding a new component in my area is a nightmare, junkyards and local sale sites have nothing available, I have considered using a generic handbrake off Ebay and just drilling new holes to fit it into my car.
