Mysterious "aux" thing

The stereo on my 2006 CR-V EX has this strange "aux" thing above one of the buttons. I assumed it meant that there's an aux input jack somewhere in the car, but I looked all over my car for this aux input jack and couldn't find it anywhere, and there's no reference to it in the manual. So, if there is no aux jack, what is this mysterious "aux" reference on my stereo? Does anybody know?

Welcome To The Club!

The gen 3s have an auxillary input and a button labeled AUX. I looked at the 06 owner's manual, and on the Canadian models they have a CD/AUX button on the sound system but as you indicated no information on it. Perhaps they use the same radio in other Honda models that do use the aux input, or maybe there is an aux input on the back of the unit that was never hooked up to anything. I don't know to be honest.

Welcome to the club and good luck with your aux search.

I believe you can purchase an adapter that plugs into the OEM harness for an IPOD interface or simple input. To toggle through the inputs, that button is there on the CDN models. I believe US models had XM as another input as there was the option of dealer subscribed XM service...

the answer

the aux button is for external imputs. if you get the unit disconected, then you can either connect a cd changer, or an other imput into it, i ahve plugged my ipod into it. To activate it you just have to click on the cd/aux, push it once and you activate the cd player, push it agin and you get what ever you have plgged into your aux input.
hope this helped

Do you have a picture of this? Neither the owners or service manuals make any reference to RCA imputs on the back of the radio. I used to handle all of the reman radio returns for our dealership and have never seen them.

There definately isn't any rca plug in the back of the headunit. Took the radio out today to check.

I'm clueless where to go from here. I'd like to be about to use this to hook up my XM XpressRC, installing it in the hole under the radio.

Any ideas?

I am at a loss. That's not what the back looked like of the one I saw, definitly wasn't from a Honda then I guess. Did you check the harness and see if it had any empty wires that didn't seem to attach to the stereo?

When you say harness what are you talking about? Haha sorry. I'll pull it back out tonight or tomorrow evening. Thats the nice thing is its so much easier to take out than on my old Civic.

I talked to a guy on Xmfan.com and he told me I'd need a PIE adapter but thats like 60/70 bucks. I was hoping for something a little cheaper. But you'd think since AUX is clearly printed on the radio there would be an easier way.

The AUX is for a Honda accessory (CD changer, XM, etc) or something else.

Like someone else mentioned before, there are no RCA input/output on the back of the HU.

Oh, I see, it's probably that white socket thing on the left, just before the antenna jack. The big one in the middle is the only harness spot I'm familliar with on the gen 2, so for the aux, they must mean an alternate 6 disc changer or other Honda thing, though I see no purpose for an alternate 6 disc because that feature is already built in on the Ex's.

On my 06 EX, there was already a harness connected to the white jack that ran to the back. It is for the satellite radio (my button is labeled CD/XM), but on non-EX models, I'm guessing you're right.

I have never in my carrer seen a factory in dash with rca inputs or outputs. BTW there is no way to put an external portable xm or sirius unit on the factory radio other than a wired fm modulator or harwireing into the rear of an oem aux mini plug if the car comes with one.

The only was to get xm/sirius into the fatory id is to buy the specific oem reciever.

you can go to best buy and add in a wired fm modulator, with the aux add on kit, but it wont run off the oem radio's aux button. I bet its cheaper though :)

What brand do you use? I had a Scosche and some generic one. Both were powered via the aux power lead, and nothing else was plugged into that.

I think my friend had an Audiovox, but not totally sure about that one. He inserted a toggle switch into the power line so he could turn it on/off. This eliminated the terrible FM reception.

the reception will be bad if you have something plugged in and the fm mod is on. I run a garage for best buy, so I use whatever they have. Maybe it's metra, I cant remember

Aux PLug

Is this Aux plug in the console of the new generation CRV (2007+) a stereo mini plug that my wife can just plug her Ipod into?
What happens on the screen (I have a NAV) after it is plugged in? Does it automatically know that the Aux is being used?
Thanks

Aux issues

....so I've read this whole thread and still havn't figured out exactly what I need to do to get my girlfriends 06 CR-V Ex's 6cd changer/cassette radio with no aux option on radio or plug anywhere hooked up for an ipod.

Can one of you electronic geeks point me excactly where I need to go and exactly what type of device I need and eactly how I attach said device.

......sorry that I need to be led to water....

I was just about to say, again, and oem ipod integration module, or a wired fm modulator. The one you picked will not work with the nav system stock, and if you have a cd changer, like most units, you will lose it. I also dont know if that one will charge your ipod, I didnt look close enough, but that is a must imo.
