Has anyone replaced their radio antenna with the newer shark fin and if so how is the reception. I have experienced no issues with the Sat radio reception.

Are you saying you HAVE replaced yours? OR are you considering it? It is a bit confusing when you said you; "..have experienced no issues with the Sat radio reception."

I’m at work right now, so I don’t have time to search for you but there is a thread with pictures somewhere on here that explains how to do exactly what you’re asking.

I seem to recall a forum member recently did perform this replacement, but I'm not sure it was on a gen4 CRV. There should be a recent thread pop up for it in search.

From an electrical engineering standpoint, the only issue of concern would be if the sharkfin antenna assembly has proper impedance matching for your head unit radio systems. It may, or it may not.... since it was never designed with your particular gen4 head unit. It's probably fine, but if you experienced any issues I bet it would be with FM reception which is more sensitive to proper matching of antenna to radio receiver. Also, prudent to find out if your existing antenna uses an active pre-amp in it or not, and compare that with whether the sharkfin does so you do not fall into the deep pit of unexpected consequences.

From a mechanical engineering standpoint, my guess is you have to be mindful of proper attachment to your roof (so you do not lose the antenna due to wind forces), as well as insuring watertight installation (because if it leaks you will be buying new headliners and who knows what else due to water damage.

Good luck! Success will make you feel accomplishment, which is always good. :)

I have a 2012 EX and replaced the antenna with the 2017 model that I ordered direct from Honda. The connector plug was the same. Mine didn’t have the stock navigation though. I had previously upgraded the stereo to a Pioneer unit with Apple CarPlay support. I can tell you that the reception I get for HD radio is better with the 2017 fin antenna than it was with the original.
