Which winter tire do you recommend?

Is there a winter snow tire that 2017 onward CRV owners recommend? I am thinking about the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 since I have used Blizzak before in my other car and they have proven worthwhile although they are more on the expensive side and they do wear out faster than some other brands. Any recommendations or experiences with this or other tires?
I used those last winter and they seemed to be fine.

On our 2019 CR-V we are using Cooper Discoverer True North. They are a top pick from Consumer Reports last year. Ride great, really quiet. Expect excellent results this winter. Previous Coopers have been excellent!

I bought the DM-V2s also, in the 17" tire size. I got them mounted on pretty decent looking rims from Tire Rack, delivered, for about $1100 last February. Big improvement in traction in the Sierra snow up around Lake Tahoe.

My 2017 EX came with Bridgestone Ecopia tires. I have 23,500 miles and at a rotation two weeks ago the dealer told me two needed replacement and the other two were close. I do no unusual driving, monitor tire pressure and alignment. I will never buy another Bridgestone product.

I just put on the same tire I had on my previous Pilot, Michelin LTX M/S. I got over 70K miles on the Pilot and no issues in the NH winter.

I dont buy winter only tires. There are tire options out there that will perform almost as good in the snow but meant for year round use.

After having Bridgestone and Continental tires on all my other CR-V's I have recently came back to the Michelin Defender LTX M/S is Michelin's Highway All-Season light truck tire developed to combine long tread life with all-season capabilities for vans, pickups and sport utility vehicles. These for me have been reliable, excellent handling and tread wear. That said, I do find them nosier than others, but living in New England the mud and snow has never been a problem with them especially on the back roads I frequent.

This is my second winter here in Colorado using Hankook i Pike RW11 tires and happy so far. They’ve performed well in snow/ice and aren’t loud. Discount Tire had a great deal on them early this year.

Buy Nokian and be done with it.

Toyo Observe G3-Ice for my northern ice region. If your region is more snow, then get snow tires instead. Yes. There is a difference in their design and ratings. For my region, ICE tires work best.

Unless they have the winter rated symbol, no.
You are both right but also wrong.

There are tires which do almost as good in slush/soft snow as a winter tire. Almost, but not quite. Such as the often discussed Michelin CrossClimate+ which bear the Mountan & Snowflake symbol (meaning severe snow service). On ice they perform exactly like summer tires. Just read a winter tire test in our local magazine, they included the CC just for comparison. Turned out they'd be trailing Chinese snow tires in all winter tests but killing it on wet and dry pavement.

There are two deciding factors which guarantee the grip on snow/hard packed snow/ice: the rubber compound softness and number of sipes. Naturally the aggressive tread and its self cleaning ability as well, this is not found in summer/all-season tires.

Look up Nokian Tires...sometimes hard to find but as a Finnish manufacturer, they do know their tires. A bit expensive though.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta are absolutely the best snow tires I have ever used. Frequently rated as the best in the world on ice, and we get plenty of that in western New York. I have also had the Hakkapeliitta R on my CRV and they are outstanding, too. The Hak R's are rated as all season, with the mountain-snowflake rating, but they don't last long if you use them year round.

I used to use Michelin X-Ice in the winter. A few years ago I tried a set of General Altimax on a minivan. Great year-round traction and quiet. A year ago my 2017 CRV-EX AWD was sliding around on the OEM tires and I changed to the General Altimax. Fantastic results. To me they seem as good as the X-ice in the Buffalo winter and they are great year round. I think the trick is the silica they add to the rubber. No need for a second set of wheels. No stack of tires in the garage.

I live in Northeastern Ohio where we get our share of lake effect snow and ice. I've been driving for 40 years and have never purchased snow tires. I just make sure I have good tread depth on my all-season radials. By good depth I mean I've replaced tires going into winter that I would have felt safe driving all through the summer. So assuming you don't live someplace like Colorado, the Dakota's, Alaska, etc. I would skip the hassle of changing and storing two tire types.

Exactly! I had Toyo Celsius CUV tires on my old CX-5. They were awesome in the winter snow/slush.
I just installed a set on my CR-V.
Bring on the snow!!

Exactly why I purchase Toyo Celsius CUV tires! They are the newest generation all weather tires. Excellent in the snow and slush and almost as good as a dedicated snow tire but able to be driven year round and come with a 60,000 mile tread life warranty. I just installed a set on my CRV.

I'm looking at snows for a 2018 LX AWD. Cannot downsize to 16" due to front brake caliper clearance... 17's are at least $50-60 more per set that 16's... I did find some 17's online for under $100 each USD. They are Toyo Observe tires with some serious Si tread compound. Not sure why these Toyos are not avail at Tire rack and other places... probably because US buyers like to spend money on Blizzaks.. The Toyos look very nice and the Canadian reviews are very good.

I've thought long and hard about the Celsius tires... Might be OK, but we get some serious snow/ice in West Michigan. Seems like a good idea, but they are pricey. If they don't perform its $700 wasted. If I get a $400 set of snows, I know they will perform.
